One of my boy got a h22 block, sent out the head to get done and never got it back from over a year now. He might be willing to part woth the block even though he wanted to build it. It seems like your a lowballin champion so if your interested let me hear how much you would pay for it. Its a JDM H22. Im not sure if it was a type s or what but it came with a red valve cover and LSD tranny. But i believe type s is obd2 only so. Anyway let me know if your interested

the obd2 block should be the same besides a possible oil filter relocation if it had an atts tranny if i remember right. most the sensor differences were on the head.Retired 1990 Accord LX Coupe

here's 1 of the bearings. They look pretty much the same.
Here's how all the mains look.
The pistons seem to have some scoring on them. Pretty sure they're still salvageable though.
Here's 1 of the thrust washers. The rest are actually worse than this one.

summary
There was some definite oil starvation going on. I'm going to replace the oil pump and clean the block oil passages thoroughly. The crank didn't have any deep scoring, just scoring on the surface that I'm sure can be removed by turning/machining the crank.
I'm just gona go ahead and build my h23 vtec. I have a good crank and brand new bearings. I have to wait to get some money though so I can take the f22 piston/rods and h22/piston rods to the shop so the h22 pistons can be pressed onto the f22 rods. After that's done, I'm going to save up for an oil pump, unless the f22 can be used. Also plan on using arp headstuds and do a valve job while the head is off.
Should be good for an easy 200whp NA out of this motor. The compression will be close to 11:1. Plan to throw boost at it later down the road. But in a different chassis.
Ouch.. Everyone runs that risk when buying a used motor..
I think your h23 vtec build is a better choice.. Good luck on thatHeader Whorage and Official Part out sale.

Yeah, it is a better choice. It's more...ME.
The reasons I didn't do it before was due to money constraints.
But..on the bright side, I'm getting FREE ACL bearings(brand new) from a good friend. Also getting some JDM H22 pistons for cheap.
JDM H22A pistons(non typeS) will net around 11.7:1 compression. WAY too high for what I want. So...I will end up getting a cometic .051" head gasket. This will lower it back down to around 11:1.
It's just more money being spent on shit I really shouldn't have to. I have other shit that needs to be paid. I'll probably not have phone service after this month because I haven't been able to pay it for a while now.
We'll see how things work out with my new job and hopefully I can still do side jobs like I've been doing. A couple of tune jobs should get me where I want with this project.
Either way, I'll probably still have less invested into this than most JDM H22A swaps cost Plus mine will be brand spanking new.

Don't know.
Now I'm considering staying in Florida. There's just so much bull shit going on in my life right now that going back home wouldn't solve shit. Being here alleviates the stress a little bit. I'm still going to visit, just not for as long as I planned. I'll probably fly there.
Everything is up in the air at this point.
I'm getting tired of working on my own car. I LOVE working and fixing other's cars. It just blows major ass not having my own vehicle to drive whenever I need/want to. It's why I was hesitant to do this in the first place.
It was either this, or buy a JDM H22 from tigerjapanese. I already have EVERYTHING else that would need replace. Just need a good motor.

The pistons I'm getting from a JDM H22 engine that is getting built. So they have no use for the pistons. Plus...the guy I'm getting them from wouldn't fuck me over. He's a mod on here and he's also a good friend.

Nothing ever goes as planned, you just have to adapt. So if you can pull off the h23 vtec without going over budget and make it reliable enough to drive well then go ahead. But consider everything before you start.

My goal is to break 215whp with 11:1 compression with a FAT torque curve. With the stock cams.
