Compressing the springs is EXTREMELY dangerous. Especially on our cars, because we have narrow springs. My machine shop charges me about what the cheap spring compressors cost. I'll have them do it.
If you're still insistent....
Go look in the beginner technical stickies. I put a video there that shows how to change springs. WATCH THE VIDEO. The compressors slip about 1 second after he got his hand out of there!MRT

30.0 MPG, AC on, aggressively driving around 90.
27.5 MPG, no AC, cruising at 90 with occasional gridlock. 40 degrees Fahrenheit
Lots of DIY videos specifically for our car

I used the same compressors for my struts....had no instructions either. Its pretty much self-explanatory when you take out the tire and start taking off the bolts for the strut. Just use one compressor on one side of the spring and the other one on the other side of the spring and start twisting the compressor with a ratchet. It didn't take much to it, just lots of hand work. Good luck!

Shops here charge 25 a strut. What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.
You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

Meh lie the strut on the garage floor with the bottom pointed away from you./ If you do fuck up the compressors (not easy to do, use your head, if its sideways its gonna slip) and the top of the strut rod is unbolted, the strut will shoot out AWAY from you.
Just google instructions on how to use them, I've never had any issues.

alright i got it all apart but i ripped the bottom rubber (compression bumper?) can i still use it? ill take pics in a min. and also im installing dropzone struts and springs, it has a pin holding the rod down, do i take that off the let it go up then install sping or am i supposed to compress it, that sounds like a dumb Q. i put the spring on the just lower the rod to the spring then tighten right? let me just take pics.

I have a DIY spring compressor
It attaches 2 ears to the to each side of the spring
Then a long threaded rod goes through it and as you tighten it up the spring compresses, once its loose you undo the bolt on the top and tada you're all done removing the spring

there is actually an allen-head hole on the tip of the chrome shaft, you can use that to keep it from spinning while you loosen/tighten the main nut on top.
obviously you need to compress the spring to remove it, but you MIGHT be able to reinstall the new springs without having to compress them. because they are made to lower the car, they are actually shorter and you can usually get away with just assembling them by hand. new shocks come with pins/straps holding them compressed - remove these BEFORE you install them! to get the new spring installed, the shock shaft needs to be at maximum length.

It looked something like this but the "hooks" didn't seem to want to grab onto the spring very well for me (due to the roundness of the spring).
