Does anyone know how performance is affected by twin loop mufflers? I've been looking into them recently, as i would like a muffler that isn't too loud, and most importantly not ricey. I HATE fart cannons. It looks like Mugen, OBX, Natemi (never heard of it?), and DC Sports all make twin loop mufflers... the last three seem to be rip offs of the Mugen. I'm just wondering, since the exhaust is being routed through the muffler twice, wouldn't it create excessive back pressure with say a 2.5'' pipe and slow you down some?

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

i think most companies use 2.25'' for catback, i could be wrong tho. and the obx can come in either 2.25 or 2.5 inlet

Originally posted by dls0451Yeah, i know they sound alright, but im wondering about performance? Also, isn't the OBX twin loop a 2.5'' in? If its on 2.25'' piping wouldnt you have to have a reducer or something on it? For an NA setup, would a 2.5'' catback with a twin loop be overdoing it?
at least not on a stock or close to stock car(i/h/e is still close to stock)

The way twin loop mufflers work is that driving normally and without much exhuast pressure the exhuast gas will exit through a extended length of piping on the muffler.
However when you boot it and the exhuast pressure inreases it opens a bypass valve if you like and it goes straight out. This way it can keep it soft when you are driving slowly.
It is a given that twinloop is also usually blardy heavy
