I love the Athlon 64 processors, but I'd have to pick the Intel Core 2 Duo on this one.

The Conroe is an excellent processor for the price and has the performance advantage over the X2 Athlon (in 32 bit world anyway).

The choices you have with motherboards, depending on your budget can also play a part in deciding on two similarly matched CPUs.

My friend has the AMD athlon and it kicks ass. The last desktop I had was an Intel Pentium and I thought it was fine but after seeing my friend's I will never buy anything else again.

Coming from a guy who runs AMD in every computer in his house, right down to an ancient Duron 750mhz....get the Core 2 Duo, you won't regret it.
AMD used to be the king of hill, but not anymore. They barely even touch the Core 2 Duo. Think about this; a 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo is pretty much even with an AMD 6000+. Now, the K8 architecture that AMD uses is pretty much maxed out at the 6000+'s 3.0ghz. However...you still have a lot of headroom with the 2.4ghz, seeing as Conroe is just in the early stages of it's life. Get the Intel.

Core 2 Duo is not Pentium. A Core 2 Duo at 2.0ghz would "rape the shit" out of your 3200+.

it depends do you want SLI

the 570 sli can use 2 video cards
the 570 ultra can only use one
                        thats why its more
                        basically the same
if you dont want sli just get the cheaper one

The core 2 duo 6600 is about the best bang for your buck on the current market. For right now amd has nothing that comes close in comparison, their next generation architecture is still in the works...you can get a very good price break on a slightly outdated amd processor nonetheless.

well thanks for the info... i had no idea what sli was. ive been out of it for so long. when i built my last computer, it was all about agp. this pci-e shit is all new to me. if i do get the sli, i assume thats to run dual monitor setups? what i want to do it hook up my monitor and my tv, but at different resolutions... is the mobo w/sli with 2 cards what i need?

I doubt you need sli, with the 8800's and their competitors out, one good card is all you'll need. And if you don't plan on running the latest and greatest games, you don't even need an 8800.

where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.
