Water Leak, from Pump?

I have a water leak, However I am having trouble chasing it down.

It is dripping from the drivers side rear block... It is dripping onto the inner cv boot on the drivers side, and then to the ground. It is coming from the area of the water pump(lower left of block), but it could be dripping higher and flowing down the block. I just want to clarify that the leak is on the BACK of the engine.

The weirdest thing about this leak is that it only drops water when the engine is off. It does not leak when the engine is running. and it leaks weather cold or hot. it is dropping about a half gallon of water every 2-3 hours it sits.

I am hoping someone can give me some ideas on what could be wrong, and maybe the simplest way to fix it ( and I am on a TIGHT TIGHT budget)

jack the car up and look where the drip is forming? dry everything off and keep a close eye out.

perhaps the water pipe where it meets the blcok/water pump.

it is possible that it is coming from the water pump.

I jacked it up and got under there, I didn't try to dry it off tho, it POURS OUT. it is just leaking from a weird angle so you cant really see the leaks origin... I will dry it off tomorrow, and I will take some pics for you guys.

For any coolant leak I would check the following:

- condition of radiator core (fins, deteriorating)
- radiator hose leaks
- thermostat leaks
- water pump leak
- rear of engine has a coolant drain plug (is it installed??) >> if another person did a coolant change, this would have been removed.


You should be able to easily identify this issue, jack up the car and get looking. People on this forum will not be able to magically do it for you, so get out there and get cracking man. All we can do is give you advice on what areas to look into based on a detailed description, you have to do the physical work and find out what is leaking, we can explain how to remove/replace the part or where to get the part/what part to go with....then you or some shop has to remove/replace it.

Bottomline, without you being proactive and looking, it will not get done. Personally, if I were not familiar with cars that much, I'd atleast locate the part that is leaking before posting, then ask for removal/replacement advise.

in the back of the block there is a hard hose that goes from the thermostat to the other side of the engine. check that.

Ok, just to let everyone know, It WAS the water pump, the weep holes where leaking, I just replaced it, and problem solved, thank god it wasn't something MAJOR!
