So I was wondering how everyone gets the car off the ground to do oil changes, brakes, etc. Ramps, jack stands, lifts? I ask because I'm looking into getting a set of ramps and/or jack stands, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations.

any car with a stock suspension can be put on ramps, or be lifted with any regular floor jack and held stationary with jackstands.
ramps wont work with a lowered car, and depending on how low, many jacks wont fit under either, you have to fork out the cash for a low-profile racing jack. but until that point, youd probably be fine with one of those combo kits that you can get cheap at walmart. it includes a jack, jackstands, and wheel chocks. thats the kit i used for the longest time, and it serves most purposes well.

I can still use a regular floor jack, my drop isn't too low.
If I really want to get up on ramps, I learned a trick.
I took a plank of PT 2x8, cut it in half lengthwise, and put it on the ramps to make the climb less steep. It works but it takes some work to get it right.
on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everythings fine.

not even a low profile floor jack can clear my car by itself . 2x4 ramps work to get a normal jack under there. with a car very low what i also found to do is to take the scissor jack in the trunk and lift the car from the towhook up front until i can get my normal floor jack to clear. it's a pain to do.
i'd take mike's advice on this one.

I just hit a switch!
lol, but I used to drive onto a board, then use a jack and stands. Now i just use a jack and stands, no more boards.

My jack doesnt fit under by like 1/8" of an inch, but i can pick up the front of the car with one hand and slid the jack under with the other hand. works pretty well.

1) put a piece of wood in front of your two frount wheels (typical 2X4)
2) run over it, this picks up the car
3) then put the ramps in front of the tires
as you can see it picks it up enough to clear the stock lip on a car with coilovers.
4) then drive on to the ramps. done.
for cars with lips use additional pieces of wood, usualy thinner plywood does the trick. later.
