Removing Oil Pan - Rear main seal work?

Okay, here's the deal. I've had my share of oil leaks this year (front-side seals changed w/ timing belt in Feb, oil pan gasket changed in Feb, oil pressure switch changed in May, rear main currently leaking), and sometime during the ups and downs of my oil level, I've developed early-stage rod-knock. I'm planning on dropping my oil pan and replacing the bearings within the next 2 weeks ad baby-ing my car until then - I only put about 2-3 miles a day on it these days.

Is there anything I can do with the oil pan off to help stop the leaking at my rear main? I'll be doing a full clutch replacement/flywheel resurface sometine in the future and will replace the rear main at that point, but figured that since I'd have direct access to the seal when I've got the pan off, I should do whatever I can to prolong the agony.
I swear, eventually I'll run out of things to break.

I guess I was wrong... I broke it all. Died 10/29/06

clean it off and put some RTV over it is my only real suggestion... that will help slow down leaks from the outside of the seal, but not the inside surface against the crank. nothing will beat replacing it with a brand new seal though...
