he meant after you turn the car off, the intake makes a sucking noise... not while youre driving and getting on it

Mine hums, after the car warms up and the ticking of the valves doesn't drown it out. It's pretty loud. I can hear it from inside the car when idling. Has something to do with the way the air flows through the intake piping I guess. Similar to a how a woodwind musical instrument produces sound. Good thing it's not that high pitched so it doesn't get irritating.

This is my car just before I turn it off (parked in a garage).... hhmmmmmmmmm (sustained) *click* sshhSHHHHHswooop *pop*

anyway yes, theres always a small passage open. ever wonder how the idle screw and fast idle valve worked? if the TB plate closed with no other way for air to get in, the motor would be choked and stall...
        Good info

I have always wondered whether this sound was normal. Now I know.

Funny thing is, every D series I have heard is like obnoxiously loud with the idling...

let's get back on topic here...

the secondaries are spring loaded to stay open and stay open without a vacuum. when the motor is started a vacuum is generated to close them. when the motor hits the right RPMs the vacuum dissipates and the iab solenoid clicks over to open the secondaries.
