So yeah, when I bought my 93 accord coupe my AC worked. Wasnt that cold but wasnt hot. It was cool air comming out. Now Ive tryed using it latley and it just blows out hot air. It pisses me off becuase I love AC.

What are the first steps to diagnose this?
Telling if ac compressor is bad?

or other?

Probably just needs to be recharged. It doesn't cost much, especially if you recharge it yourself.

I thought you were the expert on cb7s.

You may not have any luck finding R12 refrigerant in autoparts stores. What ever you do DO not use r134a in your a/c system you will fuck it up.

obvious question but i have to ask. is your heater on? is the knob broken? sometimes people forget to turn the heater to cold before using the a/c. heat always wins.

if not check your mixture valve; the valve that opens to let hot coolant into the heater core. it's located on the firewall under the fuel filter with a small cable attached to open the valve. make sure it's fully closed by pushing it with your finger to one side.

if that doesn't work, a recharge is next. r12 only! good luck!

I had similar symptoms about 18 months ago, cool but not cold air one summer, than warm air the next. A small town garage replaced the R12 with Freeze12 for about $45 and it's been pretty cool ever since. I'm sure that the Freeze12 will crap out sometime soon, and I'll need another replacement.

Why cant you retrofit it with 134a and use the 134 gas? I know R134A cools less than R12 but the cost of getting R12 really isnt worth it.

Because, at least for me $45 every 2-3 years, when I only expect to do it once more before the ol' CB kicks it out of here is less than they cost of a shop to do the retrofit.

With the R134A retrofit kit you would only be spending what $60 bucks for everything.
The fittings are like $15 for both high and low and the R134A oil and gas is like $10 each.
And if your AC system has no leaks why should you have to recharge it after every 2 years?

Actually both refrigerants cool pretty close to each other. 134A is a lil warmer but not by much. I would recommend retrofitting since r12/freeze 12 isnt produced anymore and is eventually going to run out. Plus retrofitting nowadays isnt that expensive. The only problem retrofitting an r12 car is that 134 particles are smaller so sometimes they seep through the hoses so it leaks at times but other than that it works.

I forgot to mention that I had my '78 F-150's A/C recharged without the R134a conversion. It's called "Freeze 12." It's R12 but still legal. Hope you find some near you.

So basically I need to find a place to recharge it using R12?

Henry I looked this stuff up and I couldnt find the right answer.

how would you know if your AC compressor didnt work? or would this have nothing to do with it.

Timmytool.... My knob is a little fucked, it's like the cable wont pull anymore. I have it turned as much as I should How can I fix this without taking the whole unit out

you sure it was actually working when you bought the car, and wasnt just blowing cool air because it was cold (winter) outside?

buy a conversion and charge kit, its $29.95 and it comes with the fittings, oil and 3 cans of refrigerant. easy to use and works well...
