There has got to be a better way...

...to change manual transmission fluid. The hard part comes in when trying to fill it back up. I used a funnel I had with a plastic tube on the end, and it was a major pain in the ass. Anyone know of a better way to fill it up?

i have an L-shaped piece of moulded rubber hose (used to be an old coolant line i think) stuck on the end of a funnel... feed the hose down, and it fits right into the fill hole. its not hard once you find a hose/funnel setup that reaches, fits, and is easy to get in and out.

you can also fill it through the breather, the thin tube that sticks straight up out of the tranny on the top... it may or may not have a rubber cap. find a piece of tubing that slides right onto it, and also fits onto the end of a funnel...

i like using the side filler hole instead of the breather tube because the fill hole is made at the right height so that the tranny cant be overfilled, if you fill the tranny until the oil JUST starts coming back out, thats perfect. you cant judge it like this if you use the breather.

I've never done it, but you can always pop out the VSS and fill it there. L8r

I used the vent at the top of the tranny because I couldnt get the fill bolt off for the life of me. Id say it takes a good 40 minutes using the vent because the size of the hole, lack of air coming out, and the weight of the oil. Beats not changing it though.

yeah as said above, you can fill it through the normal hole (a battery filler/turkey baster works well for that).

remove the VSS and fill through there
                  fill through the vent

of course, you will want to remove the fill bolt anyways, and stop adding fluid when it starts coming out of the hole.

Yeah well, the Honda MTF comes in quart bottles like oil. Not the best thing for transmissions with the fill bolts on the side. Anyone know why that would be a good design?

When I tried to change my MT fluid in my CB the bolt stripped. And it's MONSTROUS, you just stick the socket wrench into it, and it stripped. Only real complaint I had about my Honda(design wise).

I just changed the fluid on my 240, all you have to do to fill is pull out the shifter and pour.
