    Timing belt/balancer shaft details

I was searching online after completing my recent timing belt/balancer shaft belt replacement to find some good pics and descriptions for details not covered in the Chiltons manual. Not only is this info very helpful, but also has details regarding the front balancer shaft seal retainer not installed from the factory. Looks like I'll be going back into my timing set soon to add this clip, and verify all of the index marks are aligned properly.....because now I have a vibration, and something is off!!

It is very useful info, and I was able to identify exactly where I went wrong when I found this page. It'll be the third time in a week that I've had to get everything outta the way to get in there...but knowing exactly what to do now is very reassuring. Please note, my balance shaft seal was new as of last Friday, but I neglected to oil the shaft surface where the seal meets it so the seal fried the second that I started the car (no lubrication) Do not put any fresh oil on the seal seating surface on the block, just on the inside of the seal. This is not mentioned in my manual either.....This also goes for the upper cam seals, and the lower main/crank seal.

Plate.... If you are refering to the retainer for the front balancer shaft seal, then no. It IS available from the dealer, but I had to ask fof the part. The one I received is NOT made by Honda.

At 90k, I would go in and change out the timing belt, balancer shaft belt, and the water pump. I don't think that you'll need to do the seals as you engine is still young. Mine had just clicked over 233,000.....so some leaky seals and loose fasteners is almost inevitable. Also, go over the pan gasket bolts to see if they're all snug. This would be a good time to replace the valve cover gasket if its seeping at all. And, install that retainer clip for the balancer shaft seal, it's only about $6.
