    Car dies when idling

I have a 92 Accord LX that ran fine until about 3 weeks ago and one night it just started dying when it goes to idle. It runs fine when driving, just acts up when I stop. I've replaced the idle air sensor and checked the fuel system, vacuum lines, O2 sensors, plugs and distributor. I'm all outta ideas and any help would be appreciated.

raise the idle a bit? if its idling a bit low (500-600) then when it drops down to idle after being revved up, it often dips a little lower then pulls back up to the idle speed... so if it drops down to 300-400 itll stall out. raise the idle to 700-800 and itll probably be ok... started happening to my old car soon after i got it, raised the idle and never had a problem since

I already tried raising the idle, but it just stalls anyway. I'm getting really frustrated with it cuz my mechanic has had it for a month and everything checks out fine electronically and mechanically so far. If the idle air sensor went out on it, would that cause any other damage or problems that you know of?

I'm sorry to thread jack, but my car is doing this to(after i put the f22b in).How would I "raise" the idle?It idles at 600 and dies when i give it gas and let go so how would i go about raising the idle?

          ok thread jacker....

there's a screw that you turn with a flathead on the right side next to your tb - on some engines, there's a little rubbery-plastic-wax-whatever (yes thats the tech term) plug that you have to remove to reach the screw

loosen the screw until your idle reads about 750, thats perfect

          anyway...

it could also be your fast idle thermo valve, which is bolted to the bottom side of your tb - if that goes bad - not sure about the iac, but would imagine that could also be an issue

is the problem only when you idle?

Yes the problem only seems to be when the car idles. It runs fine in park and neutral, it's just after you've started driving that it begins to act up. When I'm going to stop it goes to idle and starts to choke and then it usually dies, but sometimes idles rough and straightens out.

ok so your having problems while driving, too?

have you checked or vacuum leaks or fuel delivery problems?

if the choking is SPECIFICALLY at or near stop (i.e. low rpms) i would try for maybe a vacuum leak... at least in my experience ive seen this be the cause

even something as simple as a bad connection in your brake booster line can cause this angry behavior from you car...
                ...

this may have been asked before, but you're not getting any check engine lights are you?

When I did my H22 swap, the car would start but wouldn't hold an idle at all, it'd just die. If I gassed it, it was ok...turned out to be that I had crossed two vac lines, not sure if that helps but thats my experience.

                  Good luck.

The check engine light has been on for like 5 years with no prob, but now that it's doing this, it doesn't come on.

                      Got it back

I got my car back finally. It was "fixed" but that only lasted about 20 minutes. It's doing the same thing still and i've noticed a little more about it. It seems to start acting odd when it shifts down to first gear when braking. If you stop really slowly the RPMs drop down, then bounce back up. If you stop faster it just dies when you stop. Any ideas???

Have you thought about your MAP sensor. I kno from experience that a MAP sensor could fuck your driving and idle up. If ur MAP sensor or the MAP sensor wiring is faulty then this could result in a problem. Thats just my idea? Hope u can figure it out soon.. Im still bugged about my wiring circuit for my tails!!! Laterrrr
