    possible shot cat?

is it possible for the cat to be bad and cause gases to get into the cabin? and throw o2 sensor codes?

    #2
if it is throwing o2 codes, try checking to o2?

my main concern is the exhaust gettin onto the cabin... does the cat have anything to do with it?

if it clogged really bad does it smell really bad more then they normally do when they burn the shit out and the o2heater is on

o2 heater is part of the 02 sensor it comes on the burn off build up in the cat by superheating the exquast gases it hard to explain but basiclly it heats the exquast gases up to the point the it burns the build up in the cat thats why they smell some times after some bad gas or lots of stop and go driving

i thought the O2 heater's job was to warm the sensor's element for an accurate reading to reduce emissions?

These sensors either have one wire or two (for purposes of grounding), since they do not require power for a heater element. They use a zirconia ceramic element to generate a voltage in a rich (insufficient oxygen) gas environment. They can take several minutes to reach operating temperatures of 625 degrees Fahrenheit after a cold start, however this varies with application as the location of the sensor determines the rate at which it heats. Click here for a diagram of a thimble type oxygen sensor.

Heated Thimble: These sensors were introduced by Bosch in 1982 and function in the same manner as the unheated thimble, however inside the thimble is a special heating element that brings the sensor up to operating temperature in about 30-60 seconds. The additional wires to power the heater- typically a total of 3-4 wires (dependent on grounding scenario) can identify these sensors. Click here for a diagram of a thimble type oxygen sensor.

never said it wasnt for emissions in fact it has everthing to do with emissions how else is the cat going to continue to trap and filter out the unburned fuel particals and hydrocarbons by use of the o2sensor/heater to ignite the build up in the cat why do you think it gets as hot as it does not just for reading a/f ratios but to burn the shit out same effect as blowing on coals on a fire to promote burning ie the 600+degrees that it get hot and the motor pushing the air like blowing right in to the cat

ok, lets be stubborn and still argue with me. im done, read the whole link below, and if you want to explain to BOSCH that they are wrong and YOU know better how THEIR o2 sensors work, feel free to give THEM a call explaining your made up explaination. their phone number is below, let me know how the conversation goes.

and you obviously have no idea how a catalytic convertor works. it doesnt collect buildup and rely on the heated O2 sensor to flash burn all of the buildup. the materials that make it up aid in converting the exhaust gasses into less toxic chemicals. it doesnt "trap" or "filter out" shit. its a CATALYST that CONVERTS exhaust gasses, otherwise it would be called an "EXHAUST FILTER"

                            http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question66.htm

the definition of catalyst, as per dictionary.com:

                            cat·a·lyst ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ktl-st)
                            n.
Chemistry. A substance (*in this case platinum and palladium*), usually used in small amounts relative to the reactants, that modifies and increases the rate of a reaction without being consumed in the process.

so in short, YOU SIR, are wrong.
