Official I Hate Changing Tiny Coolant Hoses Thread

    Pardon the language, but...

Jesus H Tapdancing Christ on a Rubber Crutch I hate changing coolant hoses. More specifically the ones from the throttle body to the thermostat housing. You know all those little shits that have one end that is super-easy to get to and one end that is near-impossible to get to without removing 3 other hoses? Yeah, those.

I spent way too much money on hoses today, way too many trips to the auto parts store, busted my knuckles too many times, and screwed with hose clamps in non-negotiable areas today to do any more.

So what do I have? That's right, the one motherfucker that I DIDNT change leaking; not just a pinhole, but like a faucet on trickle. Thats right. The one from near the throttle body to whothefuckknowswhere down behind and underneath the intake area. Now I have to redo all the shit that I did today to get that one little bitch changed.

Who the hell ever designed those hoses need to be slowly dipped into a vat of boiling feces. Sure they went right on at the factory but I'm sure he didn't try to change one when the entire vehicle was assembled.

    Fuck!!! GRRR! RAAAARRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Anyway I took digicam pics I'll post tomorrow of all the chaos.

If anybody has any ideas of how to keep my sanity, please share. I'm ready to kick a Honda engineer's ass right about now.

I hope you get that fixed, haven't had any experience w/ those hoses before and by the way it sounds, it's frustrating! Good luck and I'm sorry I don't have any tips to help you out!

I'm procrastinating doing them at this point. I guess I'll get off of my ass and start attacking the car.

If I spend all day on this thing and it still leaks then I'm going to put a stake into its heart.

            Update

After two days of F'n with one hose clamp that refuses to come off, and after contacting mrhonda (he's good), I am admitting defeat. My car has officially beat me up. The next time I will have to attack the car will be next Thrusday (today being Sat), and I'm too impatient. So, what did I do? Called the local Honda dealership and told them to get a damn flatbed and get the damn thing fixed.

You have no idea how many F bombs were dropped during the past two days. How anybody can get their hands into such a small area to get that one hose clamp off is beyond me. I'm at a loss. This is the first time in 3 years I've had to have my car sent in for service. Every other time I could do the repair. I told the service rep at Honda to keep the hose clamp that I cannot get off the car. I will name it, frame it, and sacrifice animals to it, as it has defeated me. Allmighty hose clamp, I bow to thee. Okay, not anymore. F you hose clamp.

I just hope the tech at Honda has as much fun as I had getting that thing off. He'll be earning his money on this one.

If I can find a hose exploded diagram I'll show you which hose has given all the trouble, so you know what to look forward to when yours blows out.

YES, its where clip 18 meets the bottom of hose 7. Notice where it all attaches to and you'll see that there's next to no clearance. That clip cost me $269.96 including the tow today.

Part 5 originally went bad, so I replaced hoses 5, 6, and 10. Part 7 was nicked as part 5 was being replaced, and leaked after reassembly. Clip 18 refused to come off the end of hose 7, and off to Honda the car went.

Well, if it's any consolation. One of those tiny little hoses burst on my car which I had towed to Honduh. They recommended replacing all 13 underhood hoses because of their age. Needless to say it cost a fortune and I thought for sure I was getting ripped off. Everything was fine after that. I made a 1000 mile round trip during the summer up and down mountains. Then a month later I am going to another Honduh dealer to get my oem foglights installed, and at the stoplight 2 blocks from there I smell coolant. Surely it couldn't be me! One block away it got much stronger and my temp needle was climbing fast, I just pulled in there with a trail of coolant from the street and was leaking all over. Turns out, the other dealer (which I consider to be very good) had forgotten to tighten the clamp on the radiator return line! I had lucked out just making it and the other dealer had to pay for repairs at this one. Anyway don't feel too bad, apparently it's such a P.I.T.A. that even Honda techs can forget to close clamps to finish the job already.

Turns out it was 2 hours labor because the tech had to remove the intake plenum to get to the clamp. Suckage.

OMG. Thanks for this post. I was actually going to attempt this myself this weekend. I had one of those hoses explode and was forced to take it to get it repaired. It sounds like I should have had the guy do all of them while I was there, but he wanted way to much and I asked myself "how hard could it be?" Now I know.... hope I have better luck than you because I don't have the money to pay someone else to do it!
