    Rust Prevention

So I am in Ohio for a week getting things set up for residency and shit, but I can't help buf notice the rust on older cars. Shit it's terrible, so many cars where I can see through to the frame and I really do not want this fate for my car. So what are good ways to prevent rust from a rust free vehicle?

I am going to epoxy paint the rear wheel wells like I did the front.

easiest thing is to get a winter beater and leave the nice ride put away during the snow months

I live on a gravel road and I think that maybe part of why my wagon has like no rust on it. All the dust coats the undercarriage and protects it from that most insidious auto-chassis killer, the boogie man of cars, RUST.

Yeah I was theorizing that the 20 years of build up kept the moisture out but where I live currently salt has only been used on public roads once in its history.

Keep it clean. Seal up the openings in the weld joints in the rear wheel well openings. Make sure your trunk is leak free. Treat any visible rust with a rust converter (Eastwood or POR-15).

To where are you moving in Ohio?

                http://www.fluid-film.com/

                'stuffs messy, but amazing.

wash it OFTEN, manually (no auto washes) and make sure to spray excessive water under the body and into all of the cracks.

once its washed, don't let it stay DRY. hit it with preventative oil - for a temporary solution, WD-40, but there are things with active rust converters/inhibitors. Fluid film happens to be one of these, but includes a messy wet wax that gets all over everything and keeps it sealed in. A little gross, but I use it everywhere, on EVERYTHING. Every crack, hinge, bolt, hole, bracket. While I have watched other exposed car parts becoming rusty in the bare air, stuff sprayed with the film is always wet and perfect. Previously I used to use PB Blaster on everything but it is a little more messy than WD40 but still doesn't stay around any longer. It just works better on already existing rust.
