Groaning noise as I turn and accelerate.

My cb likes to groan as I turn from a dead stop and accelerate. It gets louder the more gas I give it, its like a loud, mechanical/metalic groaning noise. Kind of like metal on metal, but its not a high pitched noise, its a very low pitched, loud groan. Sounds like its the suspension or brakes. Maybe its the driveaxles or the brake rotors rubbing something, I don't know. I know its not the power steering system, I fixed that... It started happening after I put the the engine back together... Plz help.

Have you checked your ball joints?

I did an H22 swap after that I had A grinding sound / groaning noise, I chased all kinds of things down that I thought it could be. It turned out to be the intermediate shaft bearing. I pulled the intermediate shaft and the bearing had play in it.I could wiggle the bearing end it moved about 1/16. I went to the salvage and pulled one off of a 92 CB the bearing was solid, I went home and installed it and no more noise. I chased this for about 5 months hope this can help. Good luck.

I have brand new ball joints, outer tie rods, and upper control arms in it. Update: I took it for another drive and noticed it starts to do it also when i'm accelerating from a dead stop over a hill. Not nearly as bad as when I turn though.

I don't have an intermediate shaft on my automatic, autos only have a long axle on the driver side. So that might be out of the question, unless there is a bearing on the axle that would make the noise.

Any other possibilities on what it could be?

could be wheel bearings, could be the bearings or something in the steering column.

                X3 on the wheel bearings.
Which side does the noise sound like it is coming from?
You said it's louder when you make a turn. In one direction only....or both?

It will actually do it in a straight line if I am going over a hill from a stop, but it only does it partially, when gravity makes it pull downward it will make the sound but it is never as constant as when I turn and accelerate. Its just partial. It also does it when I turn in both directions too. The noise also doesn't happen all the time, it seems on hills is when it does it most.

I actually heard someone say it could have been the dust plate rubbing the rotors, idk. The bearing were working fine before the rebuild, I don't know what I could have done to ruin them. The car still glides well. How can I test if its the bearings?

if the power steering fluid level is low, it will make a strange noise similar to what you describe. later.

The power steering works perfectly I just fixed it it was overflowing and letting air into the system. Now it works great. So Its not that.
The sound I am describing is a semi-strong, vibration type sound which I can actually feel underneath the car.

No but I doubt its that. Now I'm getting the noise while driving in a straight line from a stop. I can hear it creaking and moaning.
