    oil leaking around the filter?

My mom's cb is leaking oil from around the oil filter. When you start it up it pours from around the filter. I'll throw some pictures up later (I'm on my phone right now). Anyone had this issue or know of anything like it? My experience with oil filters has been spin the old one off and put the new one on, so I'm lost.

In the possible event that the oil filter might be seated wrong (two gaskets? Torn gasket?) U might want to try reseating that before assuming something is actually broken, but if something is, there's a couple of rubber seals close to the oil filter that often leak at a certain age.

If her CB7 is an EX or an automatic, it has an oil cooler unit that sits under the oil filter, sandwiched between the filter and the engine block (it has two rubber hoses leading to it.) A lot of times the big O-ring that seals between the engine and the cooler goes bad. With the filter removed you'll see a hex head shape around the outside of the threaded filter stud. Remove the filter stud and the oring behind the cooler will be accessible.

Otherwise it might be the oil pressure sending unit (aka the Oil Pressure Sensor). It is that single-wire unit close to the filter (just below it) that sometimes leaks. Check that too, but I think that would have been more obvious if it were really the culprit.

    Good luck getting it fixed!

Thanks for the input. Found out it was the nipple on the sending unit that had broken off and was dripping oil onto the filter making it look like it wad coming from the filter.
