    Yet another A/C Delete Question

Ok so After searching through the site and reading various threads about the topic I still feel like I'm at square one.

From what I've read there isn't any significant power gain for a DD you get a small weight reduction, and you can use the belt from 90 DX model w/o A/C. So is this true.

I been thinking about taking mine out since the damn thing does work and I'd be looking at about $250 plus to fix it. Also thinking about collecting parts by next summer to fix myself.

So from what I gather there really isn't a benefit aside from a slight weight weight reduce, insignificant power gain which can be acheived by not turning the a/c on, and a cleaner more spacious engine bay.

Experts (Thats all of you who've been at this for some time), is this close to being right.

Here are a few of the threads I've read

sounds like you understand it perfectly... you just need to make your choice

let me tell you though, that I tucked and deleted a lot of stuff in the bay... but I didnt touch the AC. its worth fixing yourself, its hot out... and when youre in a hot humid rain storm with your windows up, youll wish you had it. it doesnt take up much visible room (under the alt), consumes negligible power when off, and is available at the touch of a button...

if youre anywhere but california and it doesnt cost about 500 to convert to r134a then fix it..also, if you can find r12 and its cheap enough for you to do it, then theres no point to deleting it..

in cali, where im at, you cant get r12 if your life depended on it..and converting costs to much..i had to delete mine because of another problem not dealing with the refrigirant..

so i deleted it..i did feel like the engine didnt struggle as much as it used to with the ac compressor on, but for a dd you dont see many gains..

what you felt was from the weight reduction, if you take everything out it drops almost 100lbs, that you could feel.

The a/c system does not weigh 100 pounds

Most of the system is aluminum and probably weighs less then 60 pounds total

you could get more weight reduction if you ran around the block a few times and emptied your trunk out

Well during my swap I broke some AC pipes. Yeah they snapped on me. I kept as much as I could but I think that repair is going to upwards of $700.

CP I know what you mean. It already doesn't work. I got caught in quite a few storms so I got those visors forthe windows but they really don't do squat for the windshield.
