    mat under hood...

this car has a mat under the hood. My 1990 accord doesnt.
so can i rip one out of a 9293 accord and install it on mine?

is there pros and cons in having this mat?

Pros: The paint on your hood doesn't get baked by heat from the bay.

    Cons:
    Your bay retains heat.
That pad usually ends up filthy and looks like crap.
I've seen them come loose and get tangled in the belts and pulleys, ruining the pad and really fucking up the engine.

I think its nice to have the mat, Kinda retains the value of the car ( if it's in good shape, if not, rip it all out)

I have a peice of carpet on top of my engine. I have it there to keep the engine warm (I deliver pizza, so Im trying to retain as much heat as possible in between trips), and for it to warm up faster saving a bit of my mpg, along with the cardboard in front of my rad.

I beleive that mat is there for sound insulation. My carpet definetly insulates a loot of the sound.

not sure, but considering my mpg in the summer was 37 and its 25/6 right now, I figure some if it has to be from Idle/warm up time. I remember I was getting 24mpg when I lived up north and I didnt have any of this stuff. I beleive that a lot if it is rolling resistance as well (wheel bearing grease and stuff like that) that brings down the mpg. I got 29-32 mpg hwy on a roadtrip last week.

You cannot be serious ?! I could understand warming up your car faster to operating temp,... but to keep it on while driving ?
It takes a good 2 to 3 hours for an engine to cool down, your business must be really slow if you have to wait that long to deliver pizza. I would start looking for another job.

Cardboard in front of the radiator......wow.

37mpg while delivering pizza (all stop and go)... that says something! I usually only get about 36mpg with my Fit. Then again, I do drive it kinda hard...
