spark plugs snapped in h22 head...

put new plugs in the h22, went to crank it, and saw 3 of the plug wires pop off violently.

    heres some pics.
    http://picasaweb.google.com/Phempa/D...eat=directlink

two of the plug wires have half a plug on em, and those are the pics of the two plug holes. does that look like the bottom half of the plugs in there? of is that the top of the pistons?

I'm gonna take the head apart and take a look. might as well do a full service while I'm in here.

man, this was an unexpected set back.

lets just say, don't trust a $25 torque wrench to tell you when it hits 13 ft-lbs

My sympathies. happened to me once. took the head off, and had to take it to a machine shop to get the rest of the plug extracted. I had the head reconditioned while it was there. Good time to replaced any bad looking valves and replace valve guide seals.

fuckit... I'm pulling the motor and trans and rebuilding.

borrowing a hoist, and buying a stand.

so, as of now, this is how the car sits. I have to wait a day or two until I can get the hoist and stand, but I'm gonna start draining fluids and disconnecting shit. sux too, i just put fresh oil and filter on.

took the valve cover off to get a better look inside. it appears that the threading and
tips are still in place, so I'm optimistic that it did not make contact with a piston. don't see how it could, anyways.

heres pics of the 3 affected plugs:

you can clearly see the tips of the spark plugs... click on images to enlarge.

It's happened afew times to me over the years. Get a set of easy outs and hammer one into a scoket and then put an extension on it and tap it into whats left of the plug (in the head) and then as always lefty loosey and its out.

or take it as an excuse to redo it all, if you dont mind doing that... lol

already drained some fluids and started loosening ps belt.... might as well go all the way!

head will go to a shop for porting and polishing when i take the motor out. how about milling it down a little to raise compression. good idea? bad idea?

planning on putting some crower or skunk2 cams in it before it goes back in the car. shit, i might as well go all out. higher compression pistons/rods?

what kind of plugs were they? seems like they were cheap plugs if that happened.

It's the torque wrench that's cheap.
