Head Gasket.....might need to fix...some questions

I'm just wondering what option I should take regarding this. Also about how much would the cost of a Head Gasket job be, labor included at a shop? I already know how much Honda wants, $1113.76 (parts & labor) w/ oil & filter and possibly + resurfacing the head if needed. Parts only cost 180 bucks

I left my car in the shop for them to do a block test on it tomorrow morning, but chances are high that i might need to get a new head gasket. Its summer time now so I have some time to work on my car since I'm out of college, but its 108 degrees outside I was hoping to get a summer job but now this problem comes up. So I made a poll....what option would you take if you were in my situation?

i didnt change the oil when i do headgasket jobs. just more to replace when you dont do it right the first time (not that i do it wrong...)

with one thousand bucks you can get a whole another f22 motor and do all the gaskets on it. id bring it to another shop. i only charged my friend 450 including 200 dollars worth of machine work.

      ^ hes right.

or hit up a local friend who might do it for you/ with you.

or take the time and try it yourself, not sure how comfortable you are working on the engine yourself, but its not THAT hard especially if you follow a manual. just a lot of work removing the exhaust/timing belt/intake manifold but the actual removal and installation of the head is pretty easy. youd gain the experience plus save a load of cash.

yeah I've seen some people's threads about it in the past and they didn't say it was too difficult, just tedious and takes a long time. Do you think if I can do a valve adjustment, I can do a Head Gasket? I've got a inch-lbs torque wrench and a fair amount of wrenches, gear wrenches, extensions and stuff. Would this job require any specialized tools?

id recommend an impact gun to take the balancer off because i like to re-do the timing belt whenever i do a head job.

in addition to the inch-lbs, you'll need the ft-lbs.

            1. clean the threads off the bolts if reusing
            2. recommend using new bolts since they are torque to yeild bolts
            3. oil the threads on the bolts and under the head of the bolt and washer.
            4. clean the bolt holes in the block via compressed air and brakleen.
            5. recommend a surface
            6. set the motor at TDC and the head at TDC prior to setting the head

I blew my headgasket Feb. 23rd...

I was going to replace my headgasket just to get it back on the road, but i said screw it. I ended up getting an H23 and im about ready to swap it in.

I voted for engine swap. Because I, myself dont really like screwing around and fixing stuff like that. Im more into body work. But i know putting this H23 into my coupe myself will be a task. But i can handle it.

Its all up to you man.

              -Jordan

              btw...your car looks sick man.

would I have to replace the TBelt if it was done in August of 07? about 10K ago? I did the balance shaft seals, tensioners as well as the water pump and accessory belts during that time also.

                    100,000km = one million miles.

                    id recommend changing every 90k.

well I just gave the guy a call and he sounds pretty reasonable. He said he could do it in ONE day, and has done engine swaps and stuff like that. So 350 for the job and another 40 for the Gasket I'd need. But I was also thinking about getting that Bisimoto IM gasket, is that worth it? since I'd probably need a new one anyways?

If you are thinking you might want to do it in the future, you might as well do it now. Kinda one of those things where if if breaks, upgrade it You will probably gain a little out of it.
