I like i put my automatic transmission into neutral when waiting at red lights that take forever, so when the light turns green, i just pull it down into D without holding the brake or pressing the button, is that bad for the transmission? I dont rev it in neutral before i pull it down to D.

Is this considered neutral dropping?

not in the traditional sense, no.
i do the same thing, i switch between D and N often without touching the brakes. i figure the fact that they designed it to be movable without the brake or even the button on the side that it was expected to be used like that.

There have been numerous debates on whether to leave the lever in D or N at the stoplights.
Still, no conclusion, since there have been no firm data from research to prove either one.
Some argue that leaving the lever in D eliminates unwanted wear and tear, since the TC was designed to 'absorb' the stresses while stopping. Some argue that leaving in D burns more fuel.
Some 'highend' cars, like BMW have a feature where the torque converter disengages while stopping. This eliminates creep and also puts to rest the arguement of 'burning more fuel'. Heck, driving smoothly saves more fuel.
I just leave it in D and step on the brakes, it eliminates the shift shock.
But if I were stationary for a long period of time, I'll slot it in N.
Some idiot drivers here even put it in P. A friend of mine was involved in an accident at the lights, because the dude in front of him, accidentally 'reversed' into his car, because the dude parked the car at the lights. And in typical Malaysian fashion, a fight ensued.

The only time i put my car in N is when Im coasting down a big hill or if im gonna be sitting somewhere, waiting for someone. Call it lazy, or whatever, but its easier to just go from D to N and pop the e-brake. Then when the person im waiting for comes out, i can just drop the e-brake and put it into D.
Ive never sat at a light long enough to feel the need to sit in N. And going from N to D takes my car a second and i dont feel like holding up the line any longer, so I just dont do it. I dunno about the rest of you, but in D, at a stop, my car idles pretty low. Not at 850 like it does in N, but still pretty low.
