Wouldnt it be faster to pull out the motor and tranny? Because then you dont have to unbolt the tranny or anything and you dont have to put the tranny back on while still in the car.. thats what I would do..

No. You have to take the axles out for than and thats a whole bitch ( LCA Balljoints are PITA)
      wat?

        thats what i dont want
to take out the axles and lower balljoints to swap just the engine alone

I do believe you will have to pull the axles loose, because you aren't going to be able to get the input shaft from the tranny clear (if it's a manual).

I don't think you would gain any time by trying to just pull the motor. Easiest way IMO is to pull the tranny and the motor together, and then separate them once they are out of the car. If you have an engine leveler, it's no big deal to swing them around.

          Good luck!

You are going to have to take those axles out. I can swap axles in 30 minutes with hand tools.

Pop the lower ball joints loose and that will give you enough play in the knuckle to pull the axles out of the tranny. It's easy.

i swapped a motor without touching the transmission or suspension.

you can only manage this on an automatic because it has no intermediate shaft, also you can remove the flexplate off the engine which leaves room to pull it straight up. otherwise the input shaft and clutch setup get in the way.

its not even worth it, with everything crammed in there, i only did it just to try it. it takes longer even.

just pull the motor & tranny, swap everything around, and drop it back in.

yea just pulling the motor would be harder than pulling motor+transmission. unless you have a lift, you need to pull it out from the top.

                        my opinion...

If the you have a manual tranny .. then pull motor and tranny.. my record is 30 min in pulling it out. Change over of parts takes the longest.

If you have a auto tranny .. than just pull motor !!! just as fast .. i hate the torque converter bolts.. that takes the longest though. to fucking many of them for me !!

No matter what it should only take a whole day to do the motor swap. Two out and one in plus parts change over. It should take about 8-10 hrs depending on experience and your tools.
