i think the only place that would matter is CA. i never even had my car inspected in the 8 years ive had it. CT kinda slacks off i think

As long as you document it correctly, keep the W/O from the transmission you bought, with the VIN number, than it should be fine. As long as the transmission buy is legit, they shouldn't bother you. Assuming its the same transmission, you're not switching, if you do that, then all bets are off.

if the tranny is jdm it doesnt have a vin number so your fine. however keep you receipts as CA i heard is strict...

if the tranny is usdm starting from 96+ (as those have vin # at the bottom side) then you need a receipt and everything from motor vehicles to claim you bought it legit.

supposably CA is strict but they never check on it, personally i dont think they care enough for the hassle. never heard anything of having an "illegal" tranny over here yet.

the only time you need to worry about it is if they need to research your car to see if its stolen / has stolen parts.

ive installed transmissions and cut the tags off... technically illegal, but will never matter.

i say, if they ever for some reason think ur engine is stolen then they'll check but if not, no problem.
