Question about H22 in our cb7 and insurance

I know some of us here have already done the swap so my question pertains to insurance after a swap is done.

Do you not tell the insurance?

Will they deny further coverage if you get into an accident or continue your coverage for OEM CB7 parts only?

If you report the swap, will they continue your coverage on the car?

If they covered it, how much did your rate go up by?

while getting answers from here will help give you an idea, insurance situations like this deal solely on your state, provider, and agent... it can differ DRASTICALLY from situation to situation.

i didnt tell anybody, and i doubt they would cover anything about the motor or anything, besides the stock body of the car.

dont waste time asking here, ask your insurance agent.
I asked about doing an h22 swap in my accord in 1997, and my insurance agent at the time asks "what size engine does the prelude have?" I say "2.2l"
his reply after looking at his screen "oh you have that already, why would it make a difference to your insurance?"
At the end of 1999/start of 2000 my swap was done, and i have yet to see any piece of insurance paperwork ask about the engine.

I'm sure that guy had no clue what he was replying to.

well ia cutally flat out asked, "how would my insurance change if i put the engine from a prelude vtec in my car?" so he MAY have known it had 75 more hp, but who knows. I have had 2 claims since then, neither engine related, though one of them was flood related so they DID look under the hood and the adjuster did not have a clue the engine was not stock, he figured it was what belonged in there!

Full coverage insurance will cover the stock vehicle. Some companies will cover the non-original equipment from theft or accident damage, but usually at a higher cost (theft especially... the car is a higher risk with flashy stuff on it!). If your company is unaware of any modifications done to the car, then the replacement value would be based on a bone stock car of that age and mileage... probably about $1500-$2000.

Liability insurance shouldn't matter at all, since it isn't you that's being covered, but whoever you hit. However, if the company catches on to the fact that the car is being souped up for performance, they may see you as a risk. If you're racing and you total a Lexus, they're paying for it (well, at least to the limits of your coverage... I know the way I have my stuff set up, if I hurt someone and they get more than 15k in hospital bills, I'm fux0rd!)

Personally, living in NJ where insurance is already sky high, I never said a word. I've also never gotten in an accident, and I'm about to go fight some points from a speeding ticket next month! (and yes, I have 3 cars, 2 full coverage and my cb7 on liability, for about 2600 a year... I want to keep it that way!)
