The Journey of My Swap (Pics)

well... last week i finally retired my f22a6 and dropped the h-bomb. i swapped in a jdm h22a with automatic transmission (for now). both cpmike and 93accordEX drove down all the way from new york to give me a hand, and without them i probably wouldn't have gotten it done in such a short time frame. i also probably wouldn't have done as good of a job. they made the swap twice as fun and i enjoyed hanging out with them for those few days.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so here are the pics of the process of the conversion:

    it sits alone waiting...

plenty of wrenches and sockets to work with...

then we tore into it and started the removal process...

a wide view of the garage at this point...

the f22 being pulled out via our engine lift and some extra help from my dad...

the spaghetti dinner that we demolished after all of the hard work...

a new day starts off with a cool reflection picture...

how many times will i get a chance to do this? lol

    stripped.

we had to haul the h22 down to a local shop to have them loosen that nasty crank pulley bolt. so when we got back to the house, we just left the motor in the truck bed and installed our timing belt with it on there...

    jason (93accordEX) arrives...

... and me and mike need to spend some time with a sink and scrub brush

look at the chaos... parts everywhere...

the h22 being dropped in and mounted...

the h22 mounted and the final connections being made...

well that's pretty much it for the pictures of the actual swap process. the motor started up after a few seconds and it is running, but there are still a few problems that need worked out and troubleshooted. i didn't receive the FIV (fast idle valve) with my h22 throttle body, so i have a really weird and irratic idle. i'm also getting an engine code #12, which has to do with the EGR system. the shifter also gets locked whenever it's in park and i have to manually over-ride it with my key for some reason. and i might need a new distributor... but i'm not sure yet. but i'm going to look at it this weekend. as of right now, i'm only driving it back and forth to work... and really easy... i haven't pushed it hard yet. but it's in and running, and i'm happy for that

I'm getting misty... That is one of the most beautiful things I've seen in a while! Stevie's car is growing up...

Seriously, that looks awesome. I wish I could've made it down to help, though I probably wouldn't have been much...

lol - f00l you know it's worth it. not only does it have less than 40,000 miles on it (vs. 150,000), which makes the car more reliable in general... but it also does have 60 more horsepower, 20 ft. lbs of more torque... and with it being DOHC VTEC, it has plenty of tuning potential in the future when i upgrade to a 5 speed. plus, with the h22a automatic TCU... 7,200 rpm shifts will be nice - even with it being an automatic

                  thanks for the compliments guys...

But congrats on the ride! A auto swap is interesting, are you going to instal the sport shift shifting area? or just keep the accords straight shifting place? Looks great!
