    OBD1 to OBD2 questions.

Well apparently the motor that I recieved and installed into my 90 Accord was a 1997 OBD2 H22. Obviously I'm not going to pull it out and get the right one so besides the obvious OBD2 ECU and conversion harness I'm going to have to buy what other problems will I run in to???

do some searches on obd1 conversions.........you need 3 or 4 seperate pieces to make the obd2 motor work with your obd1 system....you don't wanna go to obd2, nothing simpler or better about it

Well I don't really have a choice because the OBD2 motor has been in the car for well over a year now and I'm assuming converting it to OBD2 is going to be a lot easier then pulling the motor and replacing with the right one.

good luck trying to convert your cb7 to OBD2 standards. the wiring harness is completely different from our OBD1 setup so it'll be harder to match or plug up the wires correctly. and correct me if i'm wrong, but the conversion harness availabe are for OBD2 vehicles to accept OBD1 motors, not the other way around.

from what i remember, to convert OBD2---->OBD1, you'll need:

      -OBD1 ecu
      -OBD1 distributor
      -OBD1 injectors/fuel rail
      -OBD1 accord wiring harness

Yeah this is definitely a shitty situation!! I'm not finding hardly anything on the net for obd1 to obd2 which is to be expected. But there's got to be a way to do it.

what you wanna do is get an obd1 ecu, change a couple of parts on the motor to obd1 (injectors and dizzy or something like that, it's been covered, do a search) and it's that simple

you're making the motor work with your obd1 car........a whole lot easier than making your whole car work with that motor

and has it been running for the past year? if not, you want to do an obd2 to obd1 conversion, not many people go from obd1 to obd2......obd1 is more desired.....

I was just thinking hypothetically about pulling the motor, and I did a search and came up with nothing that's why I posted a new thread. So it's possible to convert the motor to OBD1??

Ok yeah I'm retarded....Thanks guys hopefully I'll be able to figure it out now.

Well I already have the ECU and Wire Harness, but why do you have to replace the injectors and fuel rail?

Can I replace the distributor with any distributor as long as it's obd1 and fits the H22? Or does it matter if it's internal or external?

thats up to you if you what to go internal or external but "obd1" but you know the mod you have to do to put the internal dis

if he already has a external dis keep it, dont go with the internal. honda coils are weak

primo he also needs the injector resistor box on which injectors that he goes with.

if he converts to OBD1, the cb7's resistor box will work just fine considering the majority of swapped H22s/H23s/F22bs don't require changing the cb7's resistor box.

I'm getting conflicting info about changing out the fuel rail. Now I understand why the injectors need to be changed out, but why the fuel rail?? Sport Compact did a tutorial on an H22 Accord swap and they swapped out the OBD1 fuel rail for a 97 + rail to match up to the Accord fuel line.

When you try to hook up the fuel line, you'll notice the Accord's rubber line bolts onto the opposite side of the fuel rail as the Prelude. Fortunately, a '97 or newer Prelude fuel rail will marry the fuel systems. The part number from the dealer is 16610-PT3-A00.

Could someone shed light onto why the fuel rail and injectors need to be changed out for obd1 compatibility?

                              obd1 injectors - saturated
                              obd2 injectors - peak & hold

the actual physical different between them im not sure, but their resistances are different, and obd1 injectors require the silver resistor box we have mounted on the strut tower. you can use the obd2 injectors if you bypass the resistor box - unplug and remove the box, and cut off the harness plug that originally went to it and splice all 5 wires to each other. you can leave the resistor box if you use the obd1 injectors. if you keep the obd2 injectors, you need to get obd2 injector connectors and splice them onto your harness, since they are different. as far as the fuel rail, use one that works. youll probably want to keep your obd1 accord fuel rail, since it has the fuel line fitting on the correct side.

in all cases, youll want to use the obd1 distributor to make your life easier.

with those two things changed, the obd1 accord harness will just about plug right in to the obd2 motor just as if it were obd1. the ECU connectors inside the car will still be your original obd1 ones, so plug in an obd1 ecu.

FYI all accord and prelude resistor boxes are the same, so swapping them is never necessary.
