    a few h22 problems

I got it up and running YAY. after grounding a few wires and connecting the IAC.. it idled very well...

I am still throwing a code 6... ECT, water temp sensor. Gotta fix that.

Now, it is having a hard time starting... it usually just doesnt start for the first time, then fires up after that. when it does, takes a second then usually idles around 2k-2500. sounds like it may be sputtering a little, im not sure. Does fine but when I go to turn it off, it takes a few extra turns, and kinda sputters off. Like it coughs a few extra times... makes a few extra revolutions. If it wouldnt have the hard start/stop... it would be pretty nice, but thats kinda worrying me.

    Thanks

yeah mine used to start first time every time when I first got it.. now it never starts the first time around.. as for the few extra revolutions after you turn it off.. can't say that's ever happened to me.. sorry

Fix the ECT, reset the ECU, and then see if the hard start persists.

thats what i was thinking... since it has the temp messed up. am i correct in saying that the only ECT parts that i can try and fix will be these two? Will they both swap off an f22 motor? Of course, i sold the extra f22 head a while ago.. so i'll have to pull it off my other car for now.

if so, anyone have spare ones lying around?

Are you sure you don't have the plugs confused? You know with the redundant sensor on the water neck?

The 2 pin plug on the head is the ECT for the ECU. The one wire plug on the head is for the guage on the dash it has nothing to do with the ECU.

If you got the plugs backwards is would throw a CEL since one is a thermostat and the other is a thermoswitch.

by the waterneck one do you mean the one in the right of the picture... the green one? Are you saying that the plugs for the two may be switched(the two green ones pictured). Or do you mean that the one on the right side of the picture(upper rad attaches to it) is the one that is possibly bad?

When I get time, I am going to be swapping the interchangable ones from my accord to this one, to see which fixes it, but just not sure which ones to start with.

lemme see if i can clarify - you may just have some plugs switched, causing the CEL. the sensor(s) may not even be bad.

the sensor (green plug) on the upper radiator neck (far right of pic) is a thermoswitch, the green plug that goes to the thermostat (lower radiator hose leads to it) is just that, the thermostat. (not pictured)

the f22 and its wiring harness have both of the sensors and plugs, while the H22 doesnt come with the upper radiator neck thermoswitch, so hooking that up to the harness doesnt actually do anything.

its very possible that you could have one/some of those three plugs switched (the ECT one on the head too)...

the plug that connects to the thermostat has 2 wires, one black, one blue, and comes out of the harness around the area of the distributor plugs. to get it to reach the thermostat you needed to extend the wires...

the plug that goes to the ECT on the head should come out of the harness at just about the same spot as the single wire temp sending unit.

and the plug that goes to the thermoswitch is redundant, doesnt matter whether you hook it up or not.

So lemme see if i understand correctly.

the front thermoswitch(where the upper rad connects) can just not even be hooked up... that makes sense, cus it didnt have one on the engine before(i swapped that neck off my f22 on thinking i would need that switch)

the thermostat(same housing w/the coolant bleeder valve / where the lower rad hose goes) is the one that could be switched/bad.

That can be switched w/the green plug pointed to in the pic i attached(ect switch on the head).

Right now the thermostat connector is a grey connector with green/yellow and a yellow/green wire.

And the ECT part on the head is a black wire and a blue one.

Looks like i solved my problem... guess i gotta switch those 2 wires and i'll be good. Thanks for the help, and I'll update with how it goes.

yep, the ECT plug on the head is supposed to be grey, now that you mention it.

good luck, let us know if that fixes it.

Swapped the plugs and she runs awesome. Thanks guys. The throttle rotor is gonna prolly need to be lubed up a little, cuz its kinda sticky. My problem with the hard shut downs, and hard starts is that the throttle was set around 2-3k. So it was trying to start at 3k and shut off at 3k. I adjusted it to around 1000 for now, and it starts up and shuts down like a champ.

My only other problem is I have a small amount of smoke coming up from the front of the engine. I am pretty sure it is an exhaust leak from not using a gasket between the header and downpipe. Gotta fix that.

Unfortunately I have 2 chapters of math to read/learn, and do the homework for, then put the hw on Word to send in. Then I gotta take a stupid math test. After that I gotta write a website review. So Im hoping to get it all done tonight now that I know my car runs, and I dont have anything to worry about. Hopefully I'll get some pics of it outside tomorrow.

Thanks again to everyone for helping. Time to add another cb7 h-deuce-deuce to the list.
