H22a from the Prelude, because it has 200PS out of the box, and easily accessible.

Abundance of spares, and with some minor mods, good power increases can be attainable.

Id go with a Euro-R Swap, but there expensive and hard to come by, but if money was concerned I would not get an H-series motor. I would go for the F20b dohc vtec. The motor is only 999.00 + shipping off of hmotors and revs higher than the h22, and can also be mated to the f22 tranny. I would order the whole swap though seeing that the transmission is geared better

Actually i am getting an H22A shipped for $1064 and having it bolted to my F22 tranny for better highway mileage... Yeah that's $850 for an H with 35-45k warratied without an H tranny. and the F tranny is geared much better for boosted applications. Plus the H is an all-around better motor than the F series. and the question was "what H-series and why"

I say H22A personally because they are easily attainable for fair prices and they have close to a 60whp gain over most stock f22's.....

not much else is going to give you an increase like that and still be very reliable.

                          Bore and stroke are different.

similar power numbers, I think the H23a makes 200PS at lower RPMs compared to the H22a.

                          pros: H22a is abundant,
                          cons: H23a is rare

only the stroke is different, the bores are teh same. the h22 is 90.7 stroke the h23a vtec is 95. the bores are both 87. h23a VTEC is a the H23 with H22 head from factory everything working, non honda bonding and anything like that.

the main draw of the h22 euro-r is the superior transmission and intake manifold, but otherwise its a very similar setup to the type-s.
