Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    engine rebuild - stage 1 - stage 2 bolts?

okay, so i'm putting this F22B back together, and getting to torquing the bolts down, so i go to customlowz thread to see what's up with the specs, and they'll say "Stage 1 xxftlbs" then "Stage 2 xxftlbs". what's with the stage1/2? pictures for a reference would be nice, i wanna get this motor back together asapppppp.

It means to torque all the bolt down to the first stage then repeat the process again for the second stage.

The headbolts are 3 stages. First stage is low lbs, then medium, then high.

hmm...well if you took them off randomly and took each bolt out all the way, then your head could be warped...Removing the bolts is equally important, so if it was fully torqued at one end, and then you had half of them all the way out, chances are the head got a little warped...Have it checked with a true straight edge and feeler gauge.

no, the head is good. a buddy of mine was helping me take it off, he used to be a technician over at a local BMW dealer, and now works over at one of the local honda dealers. it's all straight, he jsut wasn't here to help me put them back on

30 lb-ft, 50 lb-ft and 80 lb-ft for the head bolts on F22ax motor. Do it in three stages and use a torque wrench obviously! A good concept if you do not know the tightening pattern to most everything you will encounter...

Start in the middle, then work your way out from the middle to either ends, criss-crossing. It's common sense once you understand how the part is being fastened down and realize how torque plays a role in how flat things will be. Once you deal with parts that will leak if not done properly and higher torque applications, it allows you to see this concept.
