    H22 vs. f22

As you you all may know by now I am on the verge of blowing yet another f22. So seeing as how I have been making alot of money due to the holiday season( I work in a restuarant) I was wondering if anyone, if possible, a non-biased people could tell me if the h22 is a good beater motor. I can't promise i won't beat on the motor the first couple of weeks or months so if not an h22 please suggest a good motor for a beater if any. This "F" lasted me through summer and i need one that would last me long enough until I learn a motor can't last for ever. thanks

Well if your willing to spend the money I would say go for the H22A. It feels good I love mine especially when you get on it. But normal driving around it drives good too. There are other options like the H23, F22B and such but its all up to you man its all in how much you want to spend and plans for the car.

what's a beater motor? the h22 is both reliable and capable of taking abuse while being reliable.

same with the f22. the h22 of couse being more fun. later.

if you can't even have a motor last longer than 3 months ( you said lasted throught the summer ) than you shouldn't even bother with the H22. waste of money if youre only gonan kill it in a couple of months.

          Agreed TypeG and 93Akkord.
What're you hell are you doing to it? Change the oil, use a synthetic if it makes you feel better. The engine should last forever. What happened to your last engine? Are you just getting turd engines from a junk yard?
If you're killing these motors on the street, what are your driving habits like?

Honestly, I was really easy on this motor so it wouldn't do what my lst one did(threw a rod at 201K) But a few days after i change my oil i have my valves adjusted to spec and i hear this knocking noise. Well I figure if i kleep it under 2000K I'm good. But it only got worse. This motor now has 119K. But 116K when i bought it(so they said) I broke it in for about 350 miles. in daily driving it never went over 2 in a half k unless i was passing. Again, i never really got on it alot. But when i did it wasn't light. So the best i can figure is either f22's suck. Or that junkyard sold me a shit motor. Because I'll admit, my first engine was beat up on the day i got it to the day it went out. But not this one. "Just to clear the record"

At least get a DOHC. But if its just gonna be beat on, its a waste of money. So how much money do you want to spend?

h22s are fun to beat on, the harder you push them, the faster they go

if you maintain it, an h22 will take a beating.

mike made a good point. IF you maintain it it will take the beating. Any H or F motor is a good beater. its all in how well the motor is being taken care of. you can have an H22 type S and if you dont do the proper maintnance on it it WILL take a crap on you. just my 2 cents.

I Beat on my f22a1 when I had it and all my h22s. My f22a1 got beat on everyday.... Redline shifts every second I got. Even missed 4th once and went back to 2nd... Ran at the track every weekend and on the monthly friday night event. Have at least 200 slips in the car to prove it too. Never changed the oil (just added as it used a quart every week). 15,000 miles later I put a h22 in and blew it up in a week (ran out of oil). Got a h23 prelude and broke it in 2 days (time belt) blew up another h22 shortly afterwards and now I have an unbreakable h22 (knock on wood). The f22b1 (sohc vtec) motor in my 94 accord went for 10,000 miles before I changed the oil and still runs good. I guess its just luck of the draw and how the last person took care of the car. I've had better luck with f22s but boy oh boy do I love the h22 and h23.

I think you ran into some bad motors. You never know what you are gonna get when you get a used one, especially if it's from a junk yard. The previous owners probably didnt maintain the engines. Maybe they were left out there too long. Most people that get low milage jdm H22A's are pretty happy because H22A are built to withstand stressful driving conditions.

How much have you spent on motor swaps so far? (The cost of the motors, labor, parts, repairs to the motors once they are in, and the hassle of not having a car to drive around.) Do it right the first time and you will not regret it. If you keep going the cheap route, it might cost you more in the end. Get your motor from a reputable company with a good warranty. Do your research and ask questions. We are all here to help.

I hate hearing about f22a's and h22a's going bad. They are great motors and I dont want a few bad motors ruin the reputation of our beloved F and H series Honda motors.

                          lol...man I love F and H series Honda motors!!!!

Something is wrong with the motors or the maintenance done on them, it doesn't add up. My RED project F22ax motor is more modified than yours and I guarantee I beat on it more than you because it's more capable and I don't have problems like you're having.

Yeah Ive had a 90 accord ex since 2000. I beat on it everytime I got in it 6500 shifts all day everwhere. last year I let my sister borrow the car and she ran it dry on oil and it blew up. I put another motor in that I bought from a garage and now my girlfriend drives it.I still occascionally beat on the newer f22a4. they hold up forever they just need oil.

Last yar I bought a 92 lx. It's redlined everyday as well. and it will be turboed by the end of the month.

You just had the bad luck of two bad engines in a row.
