    Changing LED's on the radio

I bought an AM/FM/CD player that came out of a 98' Prelude. The face lights up amber. I want to change it to the blue/green color of the original radio. This board is out of Honda radio I have that doesn't work anymore. I plan on using these parts to change the CD player radio from amber to green. The bulbs that appear blue are actually clear with a little plastic boot over them. The green ones... how do you remove them?

It really is a labor of love making a neglected CB7 with "normal wear and tear" into something worth being proud of.

Crap! That's what I was afraid of. I don't want to do this myself. What would I look up someone in the yellow pages under that would be able to do this for me?

Did you open up the prelude deck yet to see if the bulbs are actually amber or if they have a cap on them?

The soldering isnt hard to do. Its actually easy if you have a steady hand. Just practice on that old board that you have there, just solder and de-solder those bulbs.

This thread reminds me of an older cassette only aftermarket HU I still have somewhere by Craig. It has an ILL button that changes the LED display from either green or amber.

If you toss that radio out later on, make sure to keep the DIN shortening cap in the back...always good to have another one around.

its possible that the new prelude deck has surface mount LEDs, and if you dont think you can handle soldering fullsize LEDs then dont attempt to touch these... see pic below

open up the new deck and check out how the lighting all works to make sure the LEDs are even swappable. if so, go to Radio Shack and buy their cheap 12 or 15 watt soldering iron kit, comes with the iron, stand and solder.. read the instructions and practice on the old board you have. its super easy, all it really is is just using the iron to melt the solder so you can pull the LED out.
