quick dimmer wiring question

there are three wires going to the stock dash dimmer:

Red
Red/Black
Black

which one is the pure power(coming in, NOt leaving that is dimmed)?
red, or red/black? i need a power source for my indiglo gauges.

dont tie into the dimmer knob to power indiglos, itll burn out the knob. in the driver side fusebox there are four small jacks, labelled 1,2,3,5... hook up a connector to the one labelled 3, that provides +12volts when the headlights are turned on.

i'm wasn't going to use the dimmer to dim them. i was going to use the power supply to the dimmer, and splice the dimmer and wiring that came with the gauges in to it.

i know that wiring the stock dimmer straight into the gauges would kill them.



but thanks for the fusebox advise. that sounds better than my original plans.
