Why is my LED not as bright?

I got my LED bulbs and began to install them on one side first to compare the brightness to the old Halogen bulbs.
During the day, the LED bulbs are much more dull and not as bright red as the old halogen type.
I wonder why? What is the real benefit of LED? Is it for more brightness or is it for quicker response time?

I got similar bulbs like the one in this thread below:

    Thanks,

Buy individual lights and orient them in more of a sphere shape. LEDs are directional, so if you only have them pointing one way, then they're only going to shine that way.

30.0 MPG, AC on, aggressively driving around 90.
27.5 MPG, no AC, cruising at 90 with occasional gridlock. 40 degrees Fahrenheit

How could you do that when only one bulb fits in the tail light compartment?
Could you clarify a little bit?
        Thanks.

Individual LEDs are just that, individual. You'll need to crack open the taillight and figure out some way to get them in there.
          2 reasons I haven't done this yet:
          1. Not sure how I'd orient them, how many I'd use, and whether I'd glue them or drill holes, or both.
          2. I don't want to open any lights, because I don't trust my ability to recreate the seal correctly.

I'd recommend buying the LEDs off eBay, I got 300 of them for about $15.

Below is are some examples of my LEDed license plate:

Actually, most LED bulbs from most companies are less bright than halogen. Especially if you go eBay. The only ones I know of that are brighter are superbrightleds.com.

The main advantage if an led swap is actually because they have no delay- they light up instantly, a big deal when it comes to brake lights.

Also, did you get red or white? You are supposed to get red, because the red lens will filter out all the other colors in the spectrum from a white led...letting less overall light through and a washed out color. For brightest and truer color use red.

Individually, yes. That's what I used multiple LEDS. However, larger high current leds are now in some pricey luxury cars. Eventually the cost will fall and we'll get headlight leds.
