ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    No Start - No Spark

I'm just about at wit's end. My only vehicle broke down about a month ago, and I've been having to catch rides to work, and I've had enough, I want my car back! And what's worse, the car broke down about 30 mins away, at my ex-girlfriend's dad's apartment complex!! So I really could use some expertise.

Here's the rundown. The problem started about two weeks before it finally broke down. I was driving down the road, and the engine just cut off. The tachometer dropped to zero instantly, it didn't sputter or die down, it just cut off. Since I was still going about 45, I managed to pop the clutch and turn it back over for a few seconds as it started to catch and sputter and die again. I pulled over to the side of the road, and started inspecting everything I could imagine. The battery would turn the engine over, but it wouldn't start. I couldn't find any blown fuses, and I started checking grounds and the spark plugs. I noticed that there was some oil in the spark plug valley, which I soaked out with my t-shirt and reinserted, but still no start. I started banging on things in frustration, and called a ride to pick me up, when I tried again and it turned over. I quickly drove it back home. I replaced the sparkplugs then, and didn't drive it for a while.

I tried to work on it, but I couldn't reproduce the problem, so I hoped that the plugs fixed it. I was driving it to a friend's place when it cut off again, same story. Only this time it wouldn't start back up. I had it towed to my girlfriend at the time's dad's place because I couldn't afford to get it towed back to my place at the time. I checked the fuel filter, and the fuel is getting passed, there, and I checked at the banjo bolt going to the fuel rail, and the fuel is getting there, so I'm pretty sure that the engine is getting fuel. I've replaced the distributor cap, rotor button, spark plugs, coil, and I purchased a new ignitor, but haven't installed it yet because one of the screws on the old one is stripped, and I didn't have the tools at the time to get it out. I haven't changed the wires yet, which I'll do next, but I just can't figure out what is going.

When I try to start the car, I can smell gasoline, so I think it's just dumping it in the engine but it's not getting a spark. I can hear the starter trying to start the engine, so I imagine it has to be after the starter. I really need my car fixed, and I don't know where to go after this. I've searched the forum, and heard about the main relay, but I never had a problem with it not starting in the heat, and I've tried banging on the kick panel to no avail. I don't know if it helps, but it's a 93 5-Speed LX Sedan. Thanks for any help!!

CLIFFS: Car won't start. Fuel atleast to rail. Changed distributor cap, rotor button, coil, spark plugs. Engine will turn over but won't catch. Doesn't sputter or attempt to start, just the clicking of the start. No spark at the plugs, or the coil that I could find.

Well it's not working when it's cold either. I ran the recommended tests in the Haynes manual for the coil, and if I remember correctly, everything was normal, or that two numbers were off. I can't remember, but I did replace the coil, so that SHOULDN'T be the problem, though it could be.

EDIT: And there weren't any discolorations on the coil. However, on the ignitor, the wire all the way to the left, (I belive the green/yellow one) had the coating tore with exposed wire. I wrapped it in electrical tape (which is why I can't exactly remember the color anymore) and the wire didn't seem kinked or cut at all. But there was a slight discoloration on the inside of the distributor cap around where the break in the wire coating was, though I couldn't tell if it was the mark of it arcing or if it was just a discoloration.

I don't know if this helps or complicates, but about a month before, the car was stuck in the mud and pulled out. There was some mud in the lower bumper cover, and some around the bottom of the engine is, but I removed it all, and it worked fine after that until it stopped working (haha, that sentence is dumb).

that doesnt matter. the uderside of your motor gets wet all the time from driving in the rain. its made to withstand that.

but replace the ignitor and youll start up fine.

Alright, good good good. I was really thinking that it was the ignitor, but I'd hate to replace something JUST to find out it was something else. I'll probably be going in the next few days, so I'll post on here if that was what was wrong, so that someone else with similiar symptoms can know in the future. Thanks for all the help guys!!! Well, unless that isn't what's wrong, then thanks for NOTHING!!! J/k!

lol. trust us man. its the ignitor. if your not sure of our advise then talk to HondaFan81. he's built 2 of these and knows them in and out. he told me it was the ignitor when i had the same symtoms. other shops told me it was the main relay or the fuel pump. someone else said there was too much air in the combustion chamber. WTF?

                    but its the ignitor tho
