ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Do I need a valve job?

I had my car in for service for an oil change and the tech told me that I needed a new valve cover gasket because I have oil on my spark plugs. No big deal I have done it before. He said he would charge me $60 for the service and he which includes a valve job. I can do the valve cover gasket myself do I really need a valve job what does that do? My car runs fine as it is.

do you mean valve adjustment? if your valvetrain is noisy then you need one.

and oil in the spark plugs are cause by deteriorated spark plug tube seals. later.

Thanks Type G. Yeah I meant valve adjustment. What do you mean a by a noisy valvetrain? The spark plug tube seals are not connected to the valve cover gasket with "O" rings?

it sounds like a bunch of light ticking...kind of hard to describe on a computer.

yes there are o rings inbetween the head and valvetrain. there are also round gaskets on the valve cover where the spark plugs go, but those never leak.

here is a thread that can clear up any questions you have:

Ok cool I don't have any ticking. Is the seals easy to replace? Just take off the valve cover and there they are or is it more complicated than that? This sounds like something I can do easy.

its not too complicated but it requires a lot of patience and an achy back, especially the intake valves

remove and install the valve train in the proper order

this is very true, the top ones are much easier, but they are not to blame

I've replaced the bottom o-rings on both my cb's to fix the oil in the spark plug tube problem

Ok looking at this im going to let my buddy (which is a Honda Tech) Do it for $60 I thought it was easy as just doing the O rings but im not going to go much further than that. I guess a valve adjustment can't hurt for $60 its well worth it. Thanks for all the info thats why I always consult with you guys before doing work or getting work done.

Lol, valve train i thought is the controlling valve unit in the transmission... intake and exhaust valves are just refered to as valves. Getting the gasket installed with a tune for the valves for 60 bucks is a good deal.

if youre going to have a valve adjustment done, definitely take the rocker arm assembly off and put new o-rings underneath too, because a valve adjustment is required after replacing them. plus they come included with the upper valve cover gasket set

To do that, dont you need to compress each cylinder to keep the valves up? or does taking off the rocker drop the valves into the chambers?

the valves and springs/retainers stay tightly assembled to each other. whats being removed is just the rocker arms, the things that ride the top of the cam and press the valves down.

adjusting the valve lash is adjusting the gap between the tip of the rocker arm and the tip of the valve... which gets altered slightly after removal and reinstallation.

yeah, you turn the crankshaft by hand, theres a hole behind the drivers side wheel you insert the extension/socket wrench, etc
