i think i accidently ordered at27c256 chips instead of at29c256, im not sure if i did though, they didnt come yet, but what is the differenece and can i still use the 27c

i dont think the 27's are erasable, not like the 29's atleast. they still work tho.

yea on the flash and burn software it says the 27c256 is readonly, so does that mean i can burn it once just to get my car running until i can get new ones, it sucks how you have to buy 4 29c266 though

prolly xenocron. they come in packs of 4.

you should have bought some SST chips, they come in 10 and are the same price(25). those are erasable too.

but i think on the 27c chips there is a way to erase them, but I forget. I think it had something to do with UV light or some other.?

27c series chips arent electronically erasable by the chip burner, they need to be erased by a UV light. yes they will burn and work fine, but in practical use, they are one-time only.

ok thanks, i havent ordered new ones yet, should i order the SST, isnt there something special you have to do to burn the sst though?

and since when did atmel discontinue their 256k chips? do they have a successor?

yea, theyve been discontinued for a long while. xenocron still has a bunch tho.

and ive never really heard of anything special needed for the SST chips. my friend uses them without a problem. maybe the settings are differnt(for the willem burners), but thats it.

thats why I went with moates burner, no need to mess with anything. its plug and play
