ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Yep. Find somewhere to see if you can check if your a/c is contaminated (r12/134 mixed together) If not have them pull it out or you can do it the illegal way (venting it to atmosphere). But after that just buy a kit and refill it yourself as mike said. Not really that hard.

Really? *searches for DIY* And the R134 coolant still blows cool? I'm gonna have mine checked for leaks today...maybe I'll even do the conversion today as well.

Yes the R134 blows cool if not equal to the R12. If you have an r12 system and its contaminated with 134...and if there is more r12 than 134 it will blow somewhat cool until both the oils gunk up and start clogging your system which is whats happenin to mine right now. So its time to replace the whole a/c system.

its really not that hard to convert it. yeah u might have to break the law and let in the air but the government is already messin up our shit as it is. so why not let us do it.

so anyway. go to a local part store, AUTOZONE, CHECKERS (OR KRAGEN OR WHATEVER FOR SOME PPL), they sell the conversion kit for like 30 or 40 it should be. then fill it wit r134. its not that hard. as long as you read the instructions and know ur car.

If you go for the conversion methode you have to split the whole A/C system apart and replace all the O-rings, the oil in the system and the oil in the compressor.

If you dont replace the o-rings before you fill up your system with R134, they will possibly tear apart. Its because the new oil doesn´t work with the old
                    o-rings from the R12 system.

I would just try to recharge the system with some RS24 first instead. Thats what I did here this winter. And it works fine.

RS 24 is a sort of replacement gas instead of R12. And it has a better colling efficiency than R134. and of course R12 is the best. But its not possible to buy anymore unless you know some "special people"....

The conversion from R12 to R134 needs a lot of work....

Just get the recharge kit. Vent all the old r-12 into the atmosphere, fuck the environment! Put the new r-134 into it and be done. R-134 is completely compatible, however it will deteriorate o-rings faster because of polyester content. Deal with blown o-rings as they come to make shit easier. I talked with a AC pro the other day while he was helping my boss fix our Ice cream machine. My boss is also knows quite a bit about refidgeration. He has a big ass can of r-12, and a vacuum pump.

Meaning, replace them only as they leak out all your refrigerant?
                            Yeah, that sounds..."easy"...and expensive!

I'm taking mine into a pro tomorrow.
