    stupid O2 sensor question

I'm trying to pull the O2 sensor so I can ditch the stupid heat shield thingy. My question is, how does the sensor come out? Does it have threads or is it like a spark plug wire thing and just yank out? Yeah I know this is really dumb but which tool did you use to pull it off? The pliers I have can't really get a great grip on it in part because its in a kinda awkward position. Thanks for the help, and try to keep the laughing to a minium thanks

u gonna have to use an 02 sensor wrench to get it off plus not damaging the harness.

it just screws out. Doesnt yank out thats for sure. Just use some pliers or if its cool enough u should be able to use your hands if u can get a good grip.

Use a o2 sensor socket that snap on makes or use a wrench those are your two options. Yes it threads out. Why are you ditching the heat shield shit? You aint gonna lose that much weight and its there for a purpose...UNless you like your carpet and shit on fire.

its the one on the front of the header and unfortunately I broke off a bolt of said shield so now I have no choice but to yank the thing off. Its not really for weight savings or anything. I just think that shield looks kinda *** and I wanna see the exhaust manifold. even if it is the *** cast iron F22a1 thing

ok guys, slight problem here. Tried to pull off said sensor and have run into a slight problem. I got a wrench on it fine and started looseningit but then realized that the silver outer casing is spinning, not the whole sensor itself, wtf do I do now?

you can take the heat shield off of the header without removing the O2 sensor, just unplug the sensor (clipped to the front motor mount) and you can pull the heat shield off from around it.

as far as removing the sensor, ive found the only way to get one out of an f22a1 header is using the o2 sensor socket. too tight for pliars, normal socket doenst work, and the way the manifold is shaped, you cant fit a regular wrench in there. its in there *WAY* too tight to be trying to spin the back of the sensor, youll end up breaking it to pieces before you come nearly close to loosening it.

get the tool, you need it.

its really hard to separate the connection while its still mounted to the bracket... along the back side, theres a small clip that looks like you can fit a flathead screwdriver tip into. push that clip inward towards the wires, itll release it from the mount, then slide the whole connection to the right to take it off. THEN you can separate the two halves of the connector by pushing that little button on the front. FYI, just about every clip on the car is mounted this way, so figuring out how to slide it off would be beneficial... since youll run into it again in the future

btw i never really mentioned in my last post that the only solid part of the O2 sensor that you can put a tool on to loosen it is the hex shaped nut thats flush against the manifold... the little pinched hex shape in the metal casing is only part of how its manufactured, thats not for a wrench.

oh yeah I got the thing off about 30min ago. yeah me, the clip was just as you described though, kinda sucks what I found underneath though. I have an F22a1 and that cast header is way gross looking, but overall it looks cooler than with that goofy shield in place, gonna get me an a4 header and call it good. anywho, thanks for the help man I feel so smart now
