Trans codes 1,2,7,8

Today while I was setting my timing, I found that I had stored trans codes.
Through searching, I found that the top solenoid is the lock up solenoid. I'll try cleaning them. That's codes 1 and 2.

Codes 7 and 8 are the shift solenoids. I tried searching but the best thread Google gave me (Titled almost the same) wouldn't come out of archive mode correctly, so I couldn't read it.

So, is the middle one the shift solenoids? Or, how do I fix that thread?

Well it's better than nothing. Thanks. I'll put 12v on them sometime and see if they click. I just need to know which one is the shift solenoid.

Super bump because I looked in my Haynes to see if it was in there. It wasn't.

Also first is slipping pretty bad all of a sudden.

Well now I feel silly. I checked on Majestic Honda and the top two are the ones with issues.
I'll clean them off with brake cleaner tonight or tomorrow and see if that helps.

Bump for pics. Cloudasc has been posting his DIY everywhere so I opened my TCU to take a look. I haven't done anything else besides check the trans fluid.













I saw some random black marks that I think might have been marker, and bubbles on a few things. The capacitors looked fine.

^^ I'm not seeing anything unusual, visually it looks ok.

My case was easy to identify, as I had a large scorch mark where two resistors used to be.

Remember capacitors and other electronic components can suffer from different kinds of failures. Caps can leak, short out, fall out of spec, or just fail without any visual signs (thats why they make special testers, and things like oscilliscopes).

In regards to the codes:

0-Transmission control unit (TCU) faulty.
1-Lock-up solenoid 'A' circuit open or shorted.
2-Lock-up solenoid 'B' circuit open or shorted.
3-Throttle Position Sensor circuit open or shorted.
4-Vehicle Speed Sensor open or shorted - No signal from speedometer.
5-Shift Lever Position Switch circuit shorted.
6-Shift Lever Position Switch circuit open.
7-Shift Solenoid 'A' circuit open or shorted.
8-Shift Solenoid 'B' circuit open or shorted.
9-Counter shaft or transmission speed pulse generator open or shorted.
10-Coolant Temperature Sensor open or shorted.
11-Engine RPM (Ignition coil signal) open or shorted.
12-(No code 12 used)
13-Main shaft speed pulse generator open or shorted.
14-Linear (line pressure control) solenoid open or shorted.
15-Kick down switch circuit shorted.

Have you cleared the tcu codes, and see if it throws them again? The codes might have been caused/stored due to messing around with different things under the hood. If they are persistent codes, I would maybe suggest either trying another known good tcu, or start diagnosing individual components, starting with your Shift and Lock up Solenoids (maybe swap with known good ones, and check continuity between the tcu and them [wire break?])

A little bit of knowledge for future peoples:
The solenoids come in sets. Lock-up solenoids A + B are together and on the
top. The shift solenoid are under them, on the front of the trans.

To test them, let your engine cool a bit. They need to be tested at 70 degrees
Fahrenheit. The resistance should be measured between the connector and a
ground. My multimeter has long leads, so I just connected the other side to the
battery negative. Resistance should be between 14-16 ohms. Doing it too hot
or too cold will screw up your readings. You can also ground the body of the
solenoid(assuming it's off the car) and apply 12v to the connector side. You
should hear a click.

Mine passed all these tests. Unfortunately replacing the shift solenoid with a
junkyard unit that was slightly more in spec didn't fix the problem.
I'm going to go make a thread in the not beginner section to see if one of
those people would know.
