ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

before I proceed to my emissions test.

93 cb7 coupe se auto to manual h22a1 w/lsd swap

k, so time for me to renew my plates in May. I have been prepping. I really do not wanna fork out the money and get under the table emissions if I believe the car can pass legally. I have owned my current project cb7 for about 6 months and have already dumped money into it pretty recently.

    work that was done...

New alternator, belts, wires, coil, the whole dizzy, spark plugs, lower control arm, upper and lower ball joint (drivers side), stabalizer linkages.

    my cel comes on constantly,

i had three codes, abs, tps, and map sensor.
I believed I fixed the map sensor, I have yet to reset the ecu, drive again and check for codes. I do not have a clue where to start regarding the tps... will this interfere with emissions?

Usually my cel comes on after 15 mins of driving, but today I added a bottle of forumla1 fuel additive to remove carbon build up and after 2 hours of driving, the cel came back on... i was happy for a bit but disappointed.

I plan on doing a fresh royal purple oil change, and new k&n air filter for the cai pipe right before emissions.

the car never smells like it runs rich, i always pump the highest octane possible, at least 93, sometimes 94.

given my current status of my car, any other recommendations of things I should do before I go in for testing?

ps.... the guy that owned the car before me said it passed fine before. but then again, a lot of what he said about the car has not been true.... so I'm iffy about that statement.

PS.. Octane booster is not necessary for an engine, only if you are fully build..

i think is money loss for nothing.. this is IMO

i was looking at the lucas oil stablizer in the parts store. still wanna read some reviews before I go ahead and throw it in. Yes, about the higher ocatane, people never believe me, for whatever reason, if I pump 91, not much octane difference, the car doesn't have that kick, and it idles like crap. with the 93 it idles perfect, until the cel comes on of course, but you get the point, also feels like its got a lot more power. my gf who drives the car occasionally says the same thing.

get a new tps, and it should come with directions on how to install it, if you dont know where it is at, its on the back side of the TB
and as for the abs, it may be due the thing on your axle near your wheel(no idea what its called) that basically says... yes, your wheel is still spinning..

If you have a cel on you fail immediately and they won't test your car.

All these additives aren't going to fix your cel.. Tps is probably busted, as it is very fragile. Or its not adjusted correctly.

Get your car running properly or else your setting your self up for failure.

Check your CEL. I'm guessing an O2 sensor.

changed o2 sensors just before I bought the car, the previous owner had, and receipts to prove it.

ive had plenty of cars get tested and pass with cel's on. im talking strictly emissions, not safety. I will look into adjusting the tps, if that fails I will replace it. Thanks. btw... I know the additives wont fix my cel, its just awkward that after putting in the additive, instead of the normal 5 mins for it to come on, it took 2 whole hours. and as of today, I have yet to see it come on.

what your talking about has a wire going to it, it kind of runs along the hub assembly?

this might look like a really stupid post but i just want to make sure.

You are talking about the light with this symbol in particular when you refer to CEL (Check Engine Light) correct?

That is the ONLY light that matters when it comes to an emissions test at least here in California. As long as that is not on and your emissions are clean then you are good. Every other warning light could be on and it wouldn't matter. Safety test and emission tests are two completely different things. Again at least here they are.

BTW- I was told this by a state certified test only facility. I had my ABS light on...

yes that is the light i am talking about. Here in Canada, well Ontario Canada at least, the emissions test is not based on your cel or other warning lights. many people I know my age, with older cars have cel's and went for testing, was not an issue at all.

back to the topic, what else can I do to increase my chance of passing an emissions test?

A new cat will really help you with emissions.

Hypothetically, you could have a new cat that you install only for the emissions test. That cat would (hypothetically) be taken off immediately after the test and an older, used, cat installed.

If you did this, and did a detailed tune-up and oil change just before the test your emissions would be almost too low to measure. Hypothetically.

You would want to do this if you lived in an area where the emissions test was very stringent and the legislature had passed a law stating that you could only install catalytic converters that they had approved for your use. These "approved" cats would have instantly doubled in price from their pre-mandated price and would functionally be no different from the older versions.

I get what your saying, but sorry. I kind of miss understand this part ^^^. Why would I re install an older one once a new one is installed?

because the motor runs like shit, youll prematurely wear out the cat.
