ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Using a switch to diag. S/D4 Errors?

Hey guys, I was reading the "ENG: Diagnose a Check Engine Light and S/D4 errors. " thread here and a few of the people replied saying rather than use a paper clip, they used a switch to diagnose their S/D4 errors.

Does anyone have any pictures/layouts/ or schematics they can share? I wasn't exactly sure what to type in a search engine for this.

Wiring a switch in place of the service connector is as easy as removing the oem diagnostics connector, and connecting each wire (theres only 2) to the different poles/connectors on the switch. I would probably just zip tie it in place behind the kick panel, or if you wanted you could cut and mount the switch wherever you like.

If you need information on the typical chassis wiring of our cars, look at: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=184559

You could probably just stick the ends of a switch into the connector, without even needing to remove it.

The paperclip works just fine, though... and if you keep up with maintenance, you shouldn't need to diagnose error codes all that often!

True that, but with the way some peoples luck are, when there in a jam, no paper clip can be found. To prevent that situation you could always just tape a paperclip to the service connector, eg. paper clip holder.

or get a matching 2-pin connector, its the same as the ones used for the front door speakers. use that to connect to the OEM connector, and run each of the 2 wires to either side of a switch. i have one mounted on the passenger kickpanel, but unfortunately i dont have a pic to post.
