ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Positive Crankcase ventilation

    Could somebody enhance my knowledge?
I thought that the PCV valve was supposed to put a negative pressure on a neutral crankcase. I had my PCV out while my engine was running, and felt air being blown out. Does this mean my rings are going bad? Or is it this way with everybody?

Side note: There is no PCV grommet in my car. I drove for a few miles, but it worried me. Online, all the local autoparts stores need to order them. Lets say it takes 2 days, can I drive without one?
    MRT
37.5 MPG, AC on, cruising at 80.
30.0 MPG, AC on, aggressively driving around 90.
27.5 MPG, no AC, cruising at 90 with occasional gridlock. 40 degrees Fahrenheit

Lots of DIY videos specifically for our car

The Pcv system is designed to recycle blowby back into the intake manifold. At idle the pcv valve is operating and recycling blowby. While driving the pcv valve doesn't work however the other line that goes into the intake from the valve cover is venting the blowby gas back through the intake pipe/throttle body.

It is OK to run without a gromet for 2 days. Some guys run them with a filter on it to vent into the atmosphere. I personally don't do that

As for negitive pressure in the crankcase its a little more complicated. Less than atmospheric pressure in the manifold is caused by the itake valve and the piston on the intake stroke. Since the throttle body is closed it creates a vacuum less that atmospheric pressure. This is what creates vacuum.

I may be only 95% correct.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

Any airflow past the throttle plate results in some pressure loss, so the pressure in the plenum will always be at least slightly less than the pressure in the intake duct, so theoretically blowby gases will always be drawn through the PCV hose. The hose to the intake duct allows the PCV system to pull filtered air into the crankcase so that the intake isn't pulling a vacuum on the crankcase when the throttle plate is closed. If you have a lot of blowby, it may overpower the PCV system and blow back through the line to the intake duct.

In the end, you are correct, running without a grommet probably won't hurt anything except maybe make an oily mess.
