Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

oil smoke/smell?

    oil smoke/smell?

    So after running the car for awhile it starts smoking from under the hood. Not to bad just a little bit after it runs for 20mins. It seems to be coming from the bottom of the exhaust manifold in the front of motor. Now it has a bunch of crap(oil dirt) on the head below valve cover and my thoughts are that its oil burning off from the valve cover leaking. Thats going to get replaced this week along with the distributor seal. Question being is there any oil seals behind the exhaust manifold that could be leaking? Thanks

    Are you sure it's not the manifold itself?
    I'd take off the heat shield and degrease your engine to find the leak, instead of just guessing.

    27.5 MPG, no AC, cruising at 90 with occasional gridlock. 40 degrees Fahrenheit

      That was kind of the plan. Is there any sensors on top of the tranny to cover when degreasing/washing the engine? I plan of covering distributor, coil and whatever else needs covered.

        I wouldn't recommend degreasing just yet, I'd continue to diagnose.

        When was the last time general gaskets such as VC gasket, dizzy seal, exhaust mani gasket, etc. have been replaced? Do they appear dried? There shouldn't be oil coming out of the exhaust ports. But it is possible that there is a seep and is sitting on the mani when hot.

          I just hosed the entire thing down. Stopped working a few hours later though
          It was water in the distributor.
          AFAIK there's just engine block under the manifold.

            I have no clue when the gaskets would have been replaced all i know is it clearly needs v/c and distributor gaskets.

              I would clean the motor and look for a leak. If oil is burning on the exhaust manifold, then oil is leaking onto it.
