ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Oil Leak

    Your best guesses please.
I thought it might be the inner distributor seal or one of those temperature sensors.

The O-ring seal cost very cheap the inner distributor seal cost a bit more.

To determine which seal it is just take off the cap and see if there's oil on the inside of the dizzy, if there's none then it's the O-ring seal.

the leak in the first pic looke like the o-ring seal, a very easy replacement. mark the distributor timing across the top ear of the dizzy with a pencil or screwdriver. remove three bolts, and pull the dizzy off, remove old seal and replace.

This helped a lot. I cleaned the area off with TB cleaner and it looks like the leak is fixed.

                  Next question:
Can I keep using TB cleaner, or should I use brake cleaner to get the rest of the oil off?

The bad: I found out my spark plugs are leaking. A lot.

Yea, that's not your spark plugs leaking, it's your tube seals. Buy a v/c gasket kit. Buy a manual (haynes or chiltons) rent or buy a torque wrench. There are upper and lower tube seals, change both. The lowers are under the cam caps, this is where the torque wrench comes in. Also not a bad time to lash your valves while you have the vc off. I run .010/.012, but specs are on the hood and in the book. Also a good time to change plugs. .... Aahh... general maintenance.

I was planning on having the dealership adjust my valves in the spring....
I guess I'll have to make a decision. Do it all myself, or pay the ship big bucks.

It's not that hard, just take your time, be careful, and use the torque wrench!! First time I did it took a few hours. Now I can lash all the valves in less than 30 minutes. Just have patience, preperation, and proper tools. Forget the dealer, there are plenty of qualified mechanics that won't rape you like the dealer.
