Im looking for the seal that goes behind the sprocket on the read balance shaft gear assembly. I used a gear puller to pull the sprocket off to change the seal and NO ONE has the seal, not even the dealer...they can only get it with the entire gear assembly for $200 some odd dollars. IVe tried every auto parts store. anyone have any ideas? thanks

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

you could try calling tranny shops to see if they can order you one then again you might have to take the part to them to show them.
Majestic Honda

Ah I see. I thought you were saying that the dealer just didn't have it in stock. I see what you're saying now... the dealer won't sell you JUST that part, correct?
You might have to buy the entire assembly. If they don't sell just the one part, it might be for a reason (like the upper control arms and ball joints... press the joint out to replace it, and you can significantly weaken the arm... so you can only buy the entire assembly from Honda)

I understand what seal you are talking about. I can say that I've never in the 6 cb7s in my family, had to replace that seal. I've never had to remove that rear BS gear off the housing either.
Anyhow, you're best bet is to get a used rear BS gear assembly from a member that has a non-leaking seal and replace this assembly. Obviously, you will still need the O-ring that goes behind this assembly for the repair.
I have a spare I believe, PM me if you're interested.
I also highly suggest leaving the balance shaft belt off after this repair. You will never have to worry about any balance shaft seals ever, smoother engine at higher RPMs, cheapering Tbelt jobs, etc. I know from several personal experiences with my two cb7s and others in my family.Last edited by HondaFan81; 11-23-2009, 02:03 PM.

i have never heard of anybody bothering to remove that sprocket from the housing.
was that seal leaking???
i think youre going to have to find precise measurements and just order that particular sized seal online somewhere. a machine shop could help you with that, they have the measuring tools.

I just confirmed looking at my spare rear balance shaft gear housing assembly with related components, that part # 5 above, is NOT a seal. It is a metal thrust washer, shown in the photo above, behind the small gear that fastens to the rear balance shaft itself.
I understand that the OP is stating there is a seal in between the rear balance shaft gear housing and the gear on the inside of the housing. I've never had reason to disassemble these parts and verify, so I don't know if there is one and/or that is needs replacing.
All I can do is confirm that Majestic Honda online diagrams show no individual seal in their diagrams. Therefore, you would have to get another spare part, if you are correct in that this seal exists.
Did you actually verify and see this seal or are you assuming there is one?
