ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

TCU/TCM Problem Fixed Easy! Read This!!!

So I have been having troubles lately with the car. A few weeks ago my sport light would flash on and off even while driving. Sometimes the car wouldnt even shift out of first gear, seems like it was always stuck in a gear and wouldnt shift. Other times while driving, the car would just jerk and you could see the needle on the RPM gauge go up and down on its own.

I thought it was tranny problems, took it to a few shops, they told me I had a bad tranny and needed to fix it sooner or later. Most quoted me over a grand to rebuild. The transmission fluid was fine though, clean and didnt smell burnt or anything.

Did my research on the forum, a lot of people said to check the codes. The sport light had been staying on permanently. I checked and got nothing.

Finally I opened up the TCU as many have said we had shit ass ones (90-91 auto) and BAM, had two blown resistors and a leaking capacitor. Ordered the parts from www.mouser.com (Mouser Electronics). I ordered like 3 of everything and came out to be like $10. Shipping was $7 and parts were like .25 cents?! if that? Removed the resistors and capacitors and put new ones in. Plugged in the TCU and problem fixed!

She's running like a champ again!

**So before you look into buying a new TCU or getting a transmission checked, you can try doing this at your own risk! What was supposed to cost me over $1000 for transmission, or $100+ for TCU, I spent $10 and fixed the car.

Sorry for the long post, just thought id inform fellow members and save some time and money.

    The end.

yes a slight knowledge of electronics plus some parts that cost pennies on the dollar can solve most computer board problems! Deserves a smiley just gotta hold that soldering iron steady!

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

awesome, i had a P13 that had blown VTEC circuitry. all it took was a new diode and it was working again.

              its nice knowing about electronics...

i have a bad TCU somewhere at home that im going to pop open and see what i see.

i believe radio shack had the resistors but they didnt have the capacitors. you could always try calling but those things are kinda hard to find in local stores.

Hey guys, I'm new to the site and I had the same problem with my car. The D4 light would just stay fully light and I had no 4th gear. I had my tranny rebuilt last year, So I did some searching and I heard the Tranny is in "Limp mode". So I pulled the TCU and found a resistor burnt and capacitor leaking. So I went to Radio Shack and brought the correct resistor and capacitor and had a friend soldier them in... I reinstalled the TCU and problem fixed...

The capacitor I use was the 470uf 35V, a lot of places didn't have the 330uf 10v capacitor.
