I'm searching through forums for simple advice, anything helps. I'm 18 and graduating this month. I had plans to attend post-secondary schooling for computer science. I still can, but I have doubts in what is possible with graduating college in-comparison to what I can do with a jump start to my life in the open world. In hopes of being very successful, I now have thoughts of working up north with a close friend for 2-3 years and building a base in which we can invest into building a business with each other. We're both smart kids, and have vast amounts of aspiration to be successful in life, and not suffer from the dreaded 9-5. If there is anyway you can help in revising my plan to better my future, It would be well appreciated.

ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

I would like to help, but you must elaborate. If by moving up north, will you still go to college?
Do you have any money?
Have you talked to your parents about this?
Elaborate more and we can help.

By moving up north I have access to Canada's highest paying labour work. I would not be attending college.
I have a part time job at Dominos Pizza as a 'delivery expert', and make fairly substantial income.
I can't talk to my father about this, he has a one track mind which involves his kids going to school. Where he himself did not graduate college and is now fairly successful.

I'm more concerned about the portion where we open a business with little experience, If this plan is even feasible. We're very creative people, don't get me wrong, but we want a few pointers on how this will be done. Said partner has been a close friend for years now and living with him isn't an issue, and we've got no problem organising ourselves to financially manage.

I would highly suggest going to college and getting a MEANINGFUL degree.
I say this for two reasons:
1 friend didn't go to college, and has worked at an oil change place for the past 6 years.
Other friend went to college to get a degree in film. He's now bouncing around unskilled manufacturing jobs.
The computer science degree is a good idea. You'd be able to start writing programs and selling them, which can generate substantial income.MRT
37.5 MPG, AC on, cruising at 80.
30.0 MPG, AC on, aggressively driving around 90.
27.5 MPG, no AC, cruising at 90 with occasional gridlock. 40 degrees Fahrenheit
Lots of DIY videos specifically for our car
Get some awesome wipers! <-- It's a DIY

I can write computer programs as it stands, I don't need a degree for that. I'd can go to school and be much in debt, or be 4 years experienced in something directly relevant to my life. I do not plan to be working my whole life under someone else, and that's all college is going to do for me.

Hey man college is a great idea and you won't be in debt, here is how. I work 35-40 hrs a week for peanuts. I live with and take care of my grandparents, so i don't have to pay rent or buy food, ect.. I go to the community college and i have 2 years paid off completely. Now i have just two years left and they are the only ones that i will need to take out loans for because i must transfer to a 4 yr instituiotion. Just a thought man because if you are not successful and things don't work out then your in the same boat that you are now only its a few more years down the road. You may also be head over heels in debt. I don't know man if you want to do it go for it, but that "piece of paper" is what a lot of businesses and banks ( so you can get loans to start a business) are looking for. Like i said though the choice is yours, plus the economy is not "hiring" like it should so many people are still out of work.
Also what type of business are you planning to open? Where will you live like what area? How will you afford an apt, car insurence? gas for teh car? Also you will need to get a substantial job for the time being just to afford all these things i just mentioned. How will you save money while your doing all of that ? Good luck with you decision!
