ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Blue Sparrow in-depth DIY's

Since I'm going to do all my work by myself I want to make in-depth DIYs. I feel like a lot of these DIYs up here leave out things. To clarify, I'm concerned about those who want to learn as much as possible. I want to cater to those who don't know much about cars to begin with. People who are not exactly experienced with maintenance and cannot afford to have it done professionally but still want to learn how to work on cars. Of course in this case it's the CB7. If someone has a CB7 and never worked on a car before, but still wants to do it themselves. That's who I'm reaching out to. I understand some people do not need an in depth tutorial, but I feel like some people are left out. A lot of the slangs and abbreviations can throw off newcomers as well. Like: dizzy, ccu, ecu, ftas, icu/icm, etc. If you don't know what you're doing and are looking for a way to learn by demonstration and doing it yourself, these will be perfect for you. If you don't need it this in-depth and specific, that's fine and you can still find the walk-throughs useful by skipping over what you already know or do not need to know.

I'm thinking about doing step by step thorough DIYs with photographs edited like diagrams including all the torque specs and everything required. I'm talking repair manual quality with actual photographs instead of drawings for people who might not have the slightest clue what their doing. I'll even include required tools, fluids, seals, gaskets, etc.

Not to step on anyones toes. The DIYs I've found up here are great. They just seem to be lacking a lot of specifics. For example, the steering rack conversion from ps to manual didn't quite go as in depth as i would've liked. I'm going to need some input on that one as I'm still not 100% sure but I'd love to make it cut and dry including the grease used, the fluid solution, the reservoir and hose issue everone asks about, etc. Another example is a clutch replacement DIY in the beginners section. Whilst it includes pictures that a lot of others left out. I still find myself saying, what about the pics of the oil seal location and what tools you're gonna need etc. The pics are kinda small too. I'm going to post 1280x960 images if I can post pics that big with writing, arrows pointing things out, etc. just like a drawn diagram would.

Seeing how I have so much free time on my hands I can devote myself to this and hopefully I'll be able amass enough posts to get them in the DIY section by the time I finish my first DIY. Think every single step photographed and explained so that anybody who has the tools can just buy the parts and do everything just the same as if they'd had a repair manual. the difference would be you don't have to pay for a book to read my walk-through. I'll even accept input/suggestions or help making it clearer to understand and follow. If anyone wants to help me out I'd greatly appreciate the input and advice once I start getting this rolling.

I have to get my cb7 back in my garage first. then I'll return to this thread and let you guys know how it's coming along.

I want to clarify once again. I in no way mean to step on anyones toes or offend anyone by doing this. I'm just trying to cater to those with little to no mechanical experience and knowledge. Those people who think I'd love to know what they're talking about. Or I wish I could do this myself instead of paying someone to do it. Or someone who is starting out with a CB7 as their first car/first project/etc.

I cannot emphasize enough the huge amount of GREAT DIY's up here. I'm just trying to include everyone from all experience levels. The newbies who've never picked up a wrench, all the way to the certified mechanics who've been doing this for years and years but still don't know about one specific modification as they've primarily focused on repair and not tuning that part or mechanism.

This is not to insult intelligence, nor is it to glorify mine. It is to help those who want the help and try to reduce questions. To instill confidence and teach or reinforce existing knowledge and methods.
Like I said, these DIYs are entirely open to suggestions and will be edited and revised as time goes on and easier or more efficient methods are developed or suggested to me. I'm all about helping people and sharing kindness/compassion. Not about undercutting, stepping on toes, or insulting anyone.

PEACE to everyone and I look forward to any cooperation with this project. Even if nobody here uses it, it will give me something to do and I can provide it to someone who likes my car in the future and wants a CB7 and the knowledge of repair and modifications I can provide.

Thank you to everyone for all the wonderful information i've stumbled across throughout these forums. I'm in here every day multiple times a day reading and learning new things I will implement into my DIYs.

go for it man. thats how everything on this site got started. people just like you wanted to do work and document it to help others. if you can do better then by all means. it will only make things better around here! whenever you write one send a pm to deev or one of the mods and they can move it to the diy section. until you get 30 posts then you can put them there yourself.

Dani got on it before I could. When you are able, post them in the DIY section.

You seem very excited. Where've you obtained you're knowledge?
If you're looking for ideas to start, there are videos in the beginner technical stickies. They're by eric the car guy. If you make videos I'd say those are a decent guide.

      As far as pictures go:
You can post as large as you want. You just need to find a place to host the pictures.

Also; I think it's fine to make doubles of someone elses DIY. I see multiple DIYs for one thing often.
Good luck. I'm looking forward to reading some of them.

I've gotten knowledge from working on cars myself, learning from my father and a friend of mine who's worked on Hondas of all kinds since he was 16 and he's 27 now I believe. Also a lot is coming from these forums as well. If I use information from something I'll definitely include a link to the original threads/posts under sources at the end of the DIY. Thank you to both of you. If I can only get someone to push the car up my steep driveway with a truck then I can start immediately. LOL Of course I'm still waiting on parts and have to order some more when I get paid this friday, but I can start the tear down process.

Pretty much everything I know except for the electronics training from the navy and the stuff I learned in public school was self-taught or taught by a friend/family member or by reading and doing. That's mechanically, photo editing, I even know a little CSS but haven't touched that in AGES. No video camera to take vids, but If I had one I would prolly make little videos as well and put em up on youtube. I did learn a one-man method of bleeding the clutch master & slave cylinders through youtube. The internet is NOT just for porn. LOL I don't even watch that junk anymore. I use it for information and communication now.

You use porn for information and communication? I'm intrigued

Wow... that's not at all what I meant. LOL

I meant I don't watch porn anymore. I only use the "internet" for information and communication.

You had me picturing bringing a girl home and saying I don't know how to say how I feel about you so watch this and tell me if you feel the same. LOL Porn taught me how to check for spark! LMAO

yea... definitely not recommending porn for anything. it's evil in my opinion, but I'll just leave it at that.

Oh & btw. part of doing this will be gathering the information. I'm no ASE mechanic. I'm just a greasemonkey who loves to take things apart, put em back together, fix things, learn things and share what I've learned with others. This will not be all encompassing like a repair manual. It will be the things I do to my CB7 in case others wish to do the same. There are some things I will not cover because they are already covered adequately on these forums. The timing belt sticky for instance is very finely done for example. No need to do that. I'll just refer people to things like that If they wish to have that done. I'm thinking of listing alternate DIYs and sources as well. Might as well do something productive with my time.

OOOOH!!!! CB7 Bookstore! I'm totally spending some money on those books one day!

Well, slight change of plans. If I get the car in the garage I'll still take pics and pull the transmission/clutch etc. However, I've got pretty much nothing for a paycheck today. So as far as ordering the parts I was going to. I don't know if I can afford anything right now. It's a pretty big blow to take right after finding out that I'm only getting $8 back on my taxes. Not only am I paying more to file my taxes than I'm getting but my paycheck is the smallest I've had since I started this job. Wow.

I'm even considering parting out the CB I'm that messed up over this. I mean I don't know how much longer I have to live in this house. Now my scedule for the CB is cut back so I can't even count on having that to live in for a short while until I find a new place to live & find a better job. Chin up, I'm taking it, but I won't deny it hurts that I could've had $900 in the bank right now if I hadn't been helping my ex out the last couple months. It's nobody's fault about the paycheck or tax return really. I am a big reason why I'm in this mess, but she definitely played a part in ruining my life stripping me of friends and family and leaving me with the house I got for us and all the things i got for us. I'm so tired of this, I was so upbeat and feeling good lately. Now this happens, and she has the nerve to say I effed her over by canceling her insurance when she & her boyfriend talked ish to me the other day. I sacrificed everything for her to have a wife and start a family.

I'll let you guys know something soon I guess. I really don't want to get rid of the CB. It's the only thing I was looking forward to lately, along with this community. Maybe a yard sale or something. I don't know, I'll figure something out. All I really use is my tools & my laptop now. Oh well. That's life.

              Everything is on hold.

Ok, car is finally back in the garage. However I have to wait till tomorrow to start tearing into her. I have to start walking to work soon. 11-7 again. I also haven't deposited my check so I wont be able to order my dizzy & get the grease & torque wrench I planned on til monday. Then it's living off of ramen and the neighbors food till the next payday again. lol

Oh, I've done a lot of deletion and pics today. I'm going to be doing a complete p/s delete with conversion to manual & a/c delete. Only a couple tubes left & whatever is under the dash. Tomorrow I should be starting on converting my steering to manual and pulling the transmission. I don't quite have the picture down in my head like I did when I came up with this idea, however I'm still going to get it rolling and give it my best. I said I would do something, and I hate to break my word.

Here's two pics I have on my facebook from todays work. I have a bunch of pics I need to sort out & edit for the deletion DIYs. These are the only two I've uploaded anywhere.

This is a pic of what I've pulled so far that will not go back in.

As far as my mood, when i'm in the garage with a pack of smokes and plenty to do. The rest of the world is pretty much turned off. No stress besides smashed fingers and losing tools. LOL

I will be getting grease, the header/downpipe gasket, several bolts, possibly a torque wrench & timing gun. I might be able to get a dizzy. We'll see about that, at least I'll have stuff to do until the 18th, & I'm getting plenty of overtime so that check should get me the clutch/pp, tie rods, ball joints, bushings etc. The struts/springs & tires will probably be beginning of march.

From now on this thread will only consist of updates on the DIYs. Updates about my car & progress with it will be in my MRT.
