ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Dreaded rust

Hi everyone, i have a 1992 coupe that i purchased last month. Due to apparantly there only been 35 left on the road i snapped it up and followed my heart! without thinking how im gonna repair it. basically the rear arches are shot on one side. infront on the offiside arch has gone completely and behind the arch the bumper is hanging off. the near side isnt too bad but still needs attention. im in two mind to have some small pieces put in at work or to put in full new arches. The problem is with the latter is finding some, unfortunately been in England noone seems to care about these cars anymore.

So basically im after some advice on how to tackle the problem, what you did or what someone else did. I dont have any photos of the rust at the minute but can get some if needed.

    Either -

    - Buy new quarter panels, cut the old ones out, and weld then new ones in.
    - Cut all the rust out and make patch panels.
    - Send it to a panel shop.

If at first you don't succeed, Try again. Don't give up too easily, persistance pays off in the end.

New panels are probably better than used. Used panels could have the beginning of rust already. Hard to see, but enough for it to grow. Once you factor in labor, paint, etc... the difference in price isn't really THAT much. It's not cheap to repair rear quarter panels properly, unfortunately (and to do it improperly is just a waste of money... my own re-rusting hole is evidence of that!)

I had patches welded in by Maaco. Mere months after the work, the rust returned right along the welds.

I really would like new panels to put in but to find some in the uk is proving very difficult. i could get some from over the water but by the time ive paid shipping and import the price will have gone through the roof.

Ah yes, that's true. Didn't know you were in the UK.
Nobody on your side of the pond sells replacement panels? I suppose these cars are far more common in north america than anywhere else. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a CB around here.

Unfortunately, if you need more than the patch panels that are available, new complete quarter panel skins are shown as no longer available from Honda on Majestic's site. You would probably have to source some from somewhere in the southwest US. I got lucky and found mine nearbly in KY.

More like YIKES! Majestic's site doesn't bode well for coupe quarters either (my previous post addressed sedan quarters). Looks like it may have been repaired once already (looks like a thin layer of filler over the rust ahead of the wheel well on the right side). Once you start picking at it to remove all loose rust, those damaged areas may double in size.

I think you should pull off your side skirts as well. I wouldn't be shocked if there's a lot of hidden rocker panel rust you cannot see.

There's been more than a few members that have pulled their side skirts and found a surprise or two.
